Five held for history-sheeter’s murder

Mangalore, April 25: Mangalore City Police on Wedenesday nabbed five persons in connection with the murder of history sheeter Guruprasad alias Guru (33).

Those nabbed are Shailesh Ganiga (22) of Devinagar, Talapady, Prasad alias Pachchu (21) of Shivajinagar, Mogaveerapatna, Ullal, Rakesh Moily alias Chippu (23) of Kodikal, Charan Raj alias Charan (25) of Preethnagar, near Ramakrishna Mandir, Kumpala, and Prasad Ullalbail alias Pachu (26) of Ullalbail, Ullal.

Guru was killed in broad daylight on Monday by a gang of six persons in the city.

Maharashtra man beats wife to death after fight over food, arrested

Thane, Jul 19: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing his wife after picking up a fight as he did not like the food she cooked, Thane police said.

Sachin Godane, a resident of Gaikwad Pada in Ambernath, locked his two children and an aunt in one room of the house on Friday afternoon and brutally beat up his wife Chandrakala (28) with a log and then strangled her, said Assistant Inspector JB Bhoyer of Shivajinagar police station.

Godane has been remanded in police custody for four days, he added.

POCSO case accused jumps into sea, police search on

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 22:An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act jumped into the sea on Wednesday morning when he was taken for evidence collection at Kasaba in Kasargode district, police said.

Accused Mahesh was arrested following a complaint by his neighbour on Tuesday evening.

The police said that they took the accused to the seashore to collect evidence in the case when Mahesh jumped into the sea. Two police officials too jumped in after him to catch hold of him but could not locate Mahesh.

Later, swimmers were deployed to try and locate the missing man.
