Bhopal, April 27: In a bizarre and brutal revenge act, a man set on fire 10 of his guests, including four children, on Thursday morning just because one of the victims had asked his wife to sit in the back instead of the front seat of a car during a marriage procession two days ago. The man thought his wife was deliberately humiliated thus.

The bloodcurdling incident occurred in Devtola village, 5 km from Balaghat district headquarters.

Four children and four women including bridegroom’s sister suffered burn injuries. All of them were rushed to district hospital where three are said to be critical. One Sanjay Kumar (6), who suffered 90% burn injuries, was referred to Nagpur for further treatment.

Accused Rameshwar (41) had come with his family to attend a wedding ceremony of Tekchand Urkude from Maharasthra’s Gondia district on April 24.

When the baraat procession started his wife was sitting on the front seat of a car with the groom beside her. Some relatives asked her to move to the rear seat but she insisted on sitting close to the groom. She eventually relented after persuasion, much to the extreme chagrin of her husband.

Two days later—on Thursday—when guests had assembled in the morning, a furious Rameshwar doused the guests - most of them his relatives - with petrol and torched them with a flambeau, said the police. Police have registered a case and launch hunt for the accused.
