Man keeps 84-year-old mother in cattle shed for 2 years

Mysore, April 27: An elderly woman was on Thursday rescued from a cattle shed she was confined to for two years by one of her sons.

Devaraja sub-divisional ACP Cheluvaraju told TOI police raided the house of Javarappa on a tip-off and rescued his 84-year-old mother, Malamma.

Malamma, wife of Mariappa, told reporters she had not seen sunlight for two years.

Preliminary investigation has revealed the octogenarian was confined to the shed by Javarappa, a cattle rearer. He told police he kept her confined because she behaved in an abnormal manner.

The place was a hell hole, serving as bedroom, dining hall and toilet.

Police have taken up a case based on statements of Malamma's neighbours, and booked Javarappa under IPC's Section 344 (wrongful confinement for ten or more days). Javarappa was arrested and released on bail.

Panipat, Mar 3: A 22-year-old man was charred to death after he came in contact with a live electricity wire while posing for a TikTok video near the Matlaudha railway station here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday evening when Vikas, a resident of Dharamgarh village, climbed a pole over which the wire was passing and posed for the video, police said.

His three friends were standing below when the accident took place.

Vikas came in contact with the wire carrying 25,000 volts current and was burnt, police said.

Police have sent the body for a post-mortem and started investigation into the matter.

Kochi, Mar 24: A 54-year-old domestic passenger was arrested at the airport here for allegedly refusing to follow instructions given by doctorsfor prevention of the spread of novel coronavirus, police said here on Tuesday.

Lami Arackal from Ernakulam, who landed from Chennai at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery on Monday night, was arrested based on a complaint from health officials, they said.

He was, however, later released on bail.

Arackal allegedly refused to wear mask and follow other instructions to be observed by the passengers coming from other states as part of the measures to check COVID-19 spread.

He also allegedly misbehaved with the medical officers, police said.

Pilibhit, Apr 3: Two men were mauled to death by a tiger in the vicinity of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve here, an official said on Friday.

The incident happened in Richhaula Chowki of Gajraula area in the district on Thursday night when Ninder Singh (50) and his servant Dorilal (28) were sleeping on their agricultural field, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Naveen Khandelwal told reporters.

The tiger also dragged them for over 500 metres, he said.

The forest department came to know about the incident when they were informed about it by Ninder's brother after which teams of police, district administration and forest department reached there.

The tiger was tranquillised on Friday by the forest department team and will be sent to Lucknow Zoo.
