Bangalore, May 2: A 57-year-old man died after he took objection to two molesters making snide remarks at his niece and was punched and pushed about by the duo at Ambedkarnagar, DJ Halli, off Tannery Road, late on Monday night.

The victim, Alagesh alias Alagaiah, an employee of BEML tools department, was a heart patient and had undergone bypass surgery four months ago. He was rushed to Mediscope hospital as he complained of severe chest pain after he was manhandled by the two youths. He died in hospital.

The accused have been identified as Karunakaran alias Karuna and Deepu alias Deepakraj, both residents of Ayodhya Das Nagar, a few hundred metres away from Ambedkarnagar. Both the accused are in their early 20s. They are school dropouts and work as mosaic tile polishers, police said. They have been arrested and booked under Section 304 of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Alagesh's 13-year-old niece, Hemamalini (name changed), went to a grocer's shop near her home to buy some provisions at 6.30 pm. The grocer had to pay the girl 50 paise and he told her that he did not have the change. The girl insisted that she be given the change. The grocer in turn chided her. The two accused, who were smoking in front of the shop, asked the girl whether she would build a house with the 50 paise.

Insulted, Hema returned home and told her mother, Nalina, that the two youths had teased her. Around 8.30 pm, the accused were passing before Hema's house and the girl told her mother that they were the ones who had teased her. The woman questioned the youths on why they had teased her daughter. "Yes. We did. So what?" the youths shot back. Alagesh, who stayed next door, came out and intervened.

"Deepu held Alagesh, while Karuna punched him and pushed him on to the ground," Hema's mother said. Alagesh collapsed on the spot and was rushed to hospital. According to the girl, the accused had the habit of teasing girls. "They always stand near the shop and tease girls and women," she told police.

Alagesh is survived by two sons. Hailing from Vellore in Tamil Nadu, Alagesh was brother of Hema's father Vijay Kumar. The brothers had moved to Bangalore 25 years ago."

What law says

Though the law in India doesn't use the term 'eve-teasing', victims usually seek recourse through Section 298 (A) and (B) of the IPC. It sentences a man found guilty of making a girl or woman the target of obscene gestures, remarks, songs or recitation to a maximum jail sentence of three months. Section 292 of the IPC says that showing pornographic or obscene pictures, books or slips to a woman or girl draws a fine of Rs 2,000 with two years of imprisonment of either description for first offenders. In the case of a repeated offence, the penalty will be a five-year jail term with a fine of Rs 5,000. Under Section 509 of IPC, obscene gestures, indecent body language or acidic comments directed at any woman or girl or exhibits any such object or intrudes upon the privacy of woman carries a penalty of simple imprisonment for one year or a fine or both.

New Delhi, Feb 10: A 44-year-old man allegedly killed his daughter and son before ending his life by jumping in front of a Delhi metro train at Haiderpur Badli Mor station on Sunday, police said.

No suicide note has been recovered, but police claimed that the man, Madhur Malani, was depressed since his sandpaper-manufacturing factory was closed some six months ago due to financial crunch leaving him jobless. Madhur's parents had been supporting his family financially since then.

He used to stay with his wife Rupali, daughter Samiksha (14) and six-year-old son Shraiyans at a rented house in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area, they said.

Rupali was not at home when Madhur strangled their children. He might have also smothered their daughter but the exact cause of death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem reports arrive, a police official said.

After killing his two children, he jumped in front of an approaching train at Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station following which he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him 'brought dead', the official said.

Metro services on the Yellow Line were briefly delayed due to the incident.

"Delay in services from Samaypur Badli to GTB Nagar due to a passenger on track at Haiderpur Badli Mor," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.

After about 15 minutes, it again tweeted that normal services have been restored. The Delhi Metro's Yellow Line connects Samaypur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon.

The suicide was reported to the police around 5.40 pm while the Shalimar Bagh Police station received a call about the killings around 6.50 pm.

On reaching the house, police found bodies of the children lying in beds in two rooms. During enquiry, it was learnt that their father has left the house, a senior police officer said.

While police were trying to trace Madhur, they learnt about a suicide at the metro station. On verifying the details, it surfaced that Madhur committed suicide after killing his children, the officer said.

Rupali told police that she had gone to a nearby market around 3 pm and on returning home she found the bodies of her children while her husband was missing.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered and investigation was underway, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Vijayanta Arya said.

May 11: Two youths allegedly gang-raped a teen and then hacked to death her 11-year old brother, who had seen their act, in a bid to hide their crime, at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district, about 300 kilometres from here.

Police sources said that two youths, resident of the same village, barged into the house of the teen, when she was alone, and allegedly gang-raped her.

The victim's minor brother suddenly came into the house and protested after he witnessed his sister being sexually assaulted, sources said. The youths allegedly strangled the minor with a towel.

The alleged culprits, who hailed from influential families, 'forced' the victim's parents to bury their son and warned them against approaching the cops.

The parents, however, gathered courage and met senior police officials in Etah on Sunday after a case was registered in this regard. Police said that the body of the minor would be exhumed and a postmortem examination would be conducted.
