Drunk father stabs son to death

Trichy, May 28: An 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death by his father who was under the influence of alcohol, after a petty quarrel with the boy's mother, on Saturday night in Edamalaipatti Pudur, Trichy. The police arrested and remanded the father to judicial custody on Sunday.

S Muralitharan, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, works as an office superintendent in the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Trichy and his wife M Geetha, works as a pharmacist in the ESI hospital in Trichy. The couple had two children M Vinith (18), a first year engineering student and M Vishal, studying in the eighth standard.

On Saturday night, Muralitharan returned home in an inebriated state as usual and picked a quarrel with his wife over a trivial issue. However, the older son Vinith, who was preparing for his exam, intervened and tried to solve the problem between his parents. But this incurred his father's anger and Muralitharan stabbed Vinith with a kitchen knife.

Muralitharan proceeded to dash Vinith against a wall and the boy collapsed in a pool of blood in the presence of his mother Geetha. Based on the information, the 108 ambulance rushed to the spot but declared him dead. The E Pudhur police have arrested Muralitharan and sent him to the Trichy central prison. The son's body has been sent for post-mortem.

Nagpur, July 21: In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old boy allegedly killed self in Maharashtra's Nagpur city after being reprimanded by his mother for buying a samosa, police said on Tuesday.

Veeru Natthu Sahu was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Ganga Nagar in Gittikhadan area on Sunday night, an official said.

The deceased boy's family was struggling to make ends meet after their small business was hit because of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, he said.

The Class 7 student had taken Rs 10 from home without asking his mother and bought a samosa, which was then eaten by his elder brother, the official said.

The boy's mother scolded him for taking money without her permission and asked him to get the snack for himself, following which the distraught minor allegedly went into the kitchen and hanged himself using a saree, he said.

The Gittikhadan police have registered a case of accidental death in this regard, the official added.

Kochi, Mar 24: A 54-year-old domestic passenger was arrested at the airport here for allegedly refusing to follow instructions given by doctorsfor prevention of the spread of novel coronavirus, police said here on Tuesday.

Lami Arackal from Ernakulam, who landed from Chennai at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery on Monday night, was arrested based on a complaint from health officials, they said.

He was, however, later released on bail.

Arackal allegedly refused to wear mask and follow other instructions to be observed by the passengers coming from other states as part of the measures to check COVID-19 spread.

He also allegedly misbehaved with the medical officers, police said.

Puducherry,Mar 26: Congress legislator from Kamaraj Nagar constituency John Kumar has been booked on charges of violating lock-down rules, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi said on Thursday.

In a Whats app posting she further said that an FIR has been registered under the Disaster management Act.

She stated John Kumar in an irresponsible manner allowed more than 200 people to gather outside his house and distributed doles personally when lock down was enforced in the country.

A criminal case has been registered against him for blatant violation of law despite mass information and media messages.Instead of following the law, he chose to violate it,she further stated.

The LG added that as per the ground report by IGP Surendra Yadav, there was perceptible improvement in enforcement of lock down and public were aware and cooperative.Vehicles carrying essential supplies and personnel were moving and every day is an improvement.
