Miraculous escape for father-son duo

Bangalore, May 30: A man and his son had a miraculous escape when a concrete mixer lorry fell toppled on their car on Malagala Service Road near Nagarabavi on Tuesday morning.

S R Venugopal and his son V Bharath were travelling in their car when the lorry speeding from the opposite direction took a sharp left turn and fell on the car.

The duo escaped unhurt as they rushed out of the car in a split second when they saw the lorry toppling on their vehicle. The lorry driver also escaped unhurt. Kamakshipalya Traffic Police rushed to the spot and removed the lorry and the mangled car with the help of a crane.

Lorry driver Suras Chowdhary was arrested and later released on bail.

Man falls to death

Doreprasad, a 32-year-old native of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, fell to his death from the balcony of his second floor apartment in Kamakya Layout on Monday night.

A software engineer, Doreprasad had recently shifted to the City and was in search of a job. According to the police, he was drunk and was sleeping on the parapet wall of the balcony, when he lost his balance and fell down. Though he was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead. Chennammanakere Achukattu police have registered a case.

Youth found hanging

Murali, a 25-year-old youth, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his house in Sector B, Yelahanka New Town, on Tuesday morning.

His mother, Mangalagowramma, and his sister Chandrakala had gone to their native place in Andhra Pradesh on May 26. When they returned home on Tuesday, neighbours and police had gathered around their house after people complained of bad smell emanating from the house for the past couple of days.

The police broke open the door in the presence of the family members and found Murali’s body in a decomposed state. Police suspect that Murali might have committed suicide either on May 26 or 27.

The family members stated that Murali was depressed as he could not pass his BSc exam even after five attempts, which could have led him to end his life. Yelahanka New Town Police have registered a case.

Two houses burgled

Thieves broke into two houses - in KR Puram and Byataranayapura - and decamped with cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees. Thieves struck at the house of Dharmanayak, a resident of Ayyappa Nagar and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 17 lakh.

Dharmanayak, an engineer, had gone to Chikmagalur along with his family, to attend a function. They were shocked to see the front door of their house broken open, when they returned on Tuesday morning. Thieves had decamped with Rs 2.7 lakh in cash and 485 gram of gold jewellery. KR Puram police have registered a case and are investigating.

In another incident, thieves targeted a house in Kasturba Nagar on Monday afternoon and made away with gold jewellery worth about 1.5 lakh. Anita and her husband left their house on Monday morning for work. When they returned in the evening, they found the main door open and valuables missing. A case has been registered by the Byatarayanapura police station.

Valuables stolen from car

Thieves made away with nearly 200 gram of gold jewellery and Rs 25,000 cash, worth Rs six lakh in all, from a car parked in front of a marriage hall. Basavanagudi police said Inayat Ullah Sherief and his family, residents of Guddadahalli on Mysore Road, had gone to attend a marriage at NGS Convention Hall on Kanakapura Road.

They had kept their gold jewellery in the car. When they returned, the jewellery was missing. The thieves had removed the side glass to lay their hands on the valuables.

Nagpur, July 21: In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old boy allegedly killed self in Maharashtra's Nagpur city after being reprimanded by his mother for buying a samosa, police said on Tuesday.

Veeru Natthu Sahu was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Ganga Nagar in Gittikhadan area on Sunday night, an official said.

The deceased boy's family was struggling to make ends meet after their small business was hit because of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, he said.

The Class 7 student had taken Rs 10 from home without asking his mother and bought a samosa, which was then eaten by his elder brother, the official said.

The boy's mother scolded him for taking money without her permission and asked him to get the snack for himself, following which the distraught minor allegedly went into the kitchen and hanged himself using a saree, he said.

The Gittikhadan police have registered a case of accidental death in this regard, the official added.

Yavatmal, May 19: Four migrant workers were killed and 15 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in crashed into a truck in Yavatmal on Tuesday morning.

The bus was travelling from Solapur to Jharkhand. More details are currently awaited.

This comes amid nationwide COVID-19 lockdown has been extended to May 31, albeit with some relaxations.

Kochi, Feb 6: A 46-year-old Thailand national was allegedly raped by two men here, following which they were arrested, police said on Thursday.

The accused hailing from a north Kerala district have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman.

Police said the accused-- Mohammed Insaf and his friend Ansaruddin from Kondotty in Malappuram district were arrested after recording the statement of the victim.

The woman from Thailand had been a Facebook friend of Insaf for the last seven months after she enrolled her child in a school in Malappuram district.

The woman who came from Bangkok recently to visit her child and was staying in a hotel here.

When Insaf came to meet the woman, he was accompanied by his friend Ansaruddin and both allegedly raped the woman at the hotel room, police said.

All formalities including medical examination of the woman were completed, police said.

The accused will be produced before the court on Thursday, they added.
