June 17, 2012

New Delhi, June 17: Love can move heaven and earth, as the saying goes; but two teenagers have proved that it can also make you rob your own family. On May 19, two teenagers, along with their accomplices, planned and robbed their grandmother after they came to know about a Rs 30 lakh payment she had received in a property deal.

The juveniles, whose parents work as traders, took the step as they wanted to splurge the money on their girlfriends. With the apprehension of two juveniles and the arrest of an accomplice, the crime branch claims to have solved the case. Two of the accused, including one of the grandsons, are still absconding, police said.

"The grandsons of complainant Malkiyat Kaur had come to know about a Rs 30 lakh payment that their grandmother had received from a local property deal. The juveniles disclosed this information to their friends - Gurpreet Singh, Saurabh Nagia and a third associate -living in their locality. Malkiyat's grandsons (her daughter's son and her son's kin) then hatched a conspiracy to loot the amount as they wanted to splurge on their girlfriends and live a lavish lifestyle,'' said Bhism Singh, additional DCP (crime).

The incident took place at Rani Bagh area of northwest Delhi. According to sources, the juvenile grandsons opened the lock of the door on May 19 and gave a free passage to their associates. Besides Malkiyat, her daughter Jasbir too was present in the house on that day. While the juveniles left home after that, their accomplices threatened and tied up the two women with a piece of cloth and looted around Rs 9 lakh from them at gunpoint.

Later, the accomplices distributed the booty among themselves and did not give a penny to the juveniles. "The accused bought four gold rings from the looted money and Rs. 62,000 cash has been recovered from them. Efforts are on to apprehend the absconding associates and recover the remaining money,'' said Sanjay Jain, DCP (crime).

The incident took place in Rani Bagh. The boys opened the lock and gave a free passage to their associates.
