Kolkata, July 9: The parents of the Class 5 girl, who was allegedly forced to drink her own urine for bed wetting, have been arrested for entering the girls hostel without permission. The warden who has been accused of punishing the girl has also been arrested.

The class 5 student of the Visva-Bharati university's Patha Bhavan was allegedly forced to drink her own urine because she wet her bed. The girl's family had lodged a police complaint against the warden at the girls hostel of the residential school. "The guilty must be punished. My daughter will never recover from this incident," the girl's mother said.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has demanded an explanation and sought a report over the Class 5 girl made to drink urine in West Bengal. The shocking incident of corporal punishment came from the university founded by Rabindranath Tagore.

NCPCR member Vinod Kumar Tikoo said, "If it is true, it is the warden who should be punished. Corporal punishment has been banned in West Bengal state across the country."

"It is a very shocking incident. The concerned warden should be punished for this act. She should be suspended," NCPCR Chairperson Shanta Sinha said.

A four member fact-finding committee has been constituted to look into the allegation, a university official said on Sunday.

"We have received a complaint that a class 5 residential student of the Patha Bhavan was allegedly made to drink her urine as a punishment. A four member fact finding committee headed by former dean of students welfare, Aruna Mukherjee has been set up to look into the matter and submit its report to the vice chancellor of the University," a university spokesman said.

The incident happened on Saturday evening when the warden of Karabi hostel, Uma Poddar, while on an inspection found Punita guilty of bed wetting. She allegedly then made the girl drink her urine as a punishment.
