Bhopal, July 10: A law student in Madhya Pradesh has committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his hostel room in Rewa, 400 kms from Bhopal, the state capital. His body was found on the morning of July 9.

Two days earlier, he had filed a written complaint with the university Vice Chancellor Rajmani Mishra.

In his letter, he said that his room-mate at the hostel, who was also his senior in college, had been sexually harassing him for the last two years. He said that the police, which had registered an FIR against his room-mate in May, had refused to take any action. So he filed another complaint with the police in the middle of June. In his letter to the university, the student said he would kill himself if the police did not react by July 9. A day before he killed himself, his room-mate was arrested.

Friends say that he was deeply troubled after a local newspaper discovered his complaint to the police. On July 7, it printed the details along with his name as well as that of the other student involved. Sources on campus also suggest that the student and his room-mate were in a relationship and that when the latter got married, the student filed a police complaint.
