‘Baby snatch’ parents face charges

Sharjah, August 31: The parents at the centre of the seven-hour Sharjah baby snatch drama have been charged with neglect. Sharjah Police confirmed the move on Thursday after registering a case against the parents of Lailas Ehssan.

The child was taken earlier this month when her parents’ car was stolen from a petrol station in Industrial Area 6 in Sharjah.

They left her in the back seat of their white Toyota Prado, with the engine still running in the unlocked car, as they went inside the station.

Within minutes a thief got behind the wheel and sped off, taking Syrian Mohammad Ehssan’s baby daughter with the car.

By 1am, Sharjah Police posted pleas on their Twitter and Facebook pages, asking for help to find the child, releasing the make, model and registration of the car.

The child was only returned after heroic Ebrahim Ahmad Al Shamsi responded to the online police appeals and went searching for the baby in his car.

He bravely tracked her down and alerted police who reunited the child with her parents.

Sharjah Police have since rewarded Emirati Al Shamsi for his courageous efforts.

Now they have taken action against the child’s parents.

Speaking to Gulf News, Mohammad Ehssan, father of one month old Lailas, described the moment his child went missing.

The 34-year-old said: “I did not think for a while that Lilas will be snatched with the car.

“I have two daughters Limar aged three-and-a-half and Lailas.”

Ehssan, from Al Ain but visiting relatives in Sharjah for Eid, said he went with his wife Ruba to buy a gas stove from the industrial area 6 in Sharjah.

“By the time we were done, we went outside to find the car snatched with our baby inside.

“We spent those seven hours praying and asking God to return our daughter safely.

“Her mother was crying and weeping all the time.

“When police found Lailas and took her to hospital, we ran to see her.

“I took my little girl in between my arms and lay on the ground crying, her mother too.

“Never we will do this matter again or leave one of our daughters alone in the car or even leave the car in a running condition.

“Thanks to Sharjah Police and Al Shamsi who jumped to the scene and responded to Sharjah police’s plea to find my little girl,” Ehssan said.

“During the coming days I will meet Al Shamsi to thank him again,” he added.

The couple have been referred to public prosecution and to the court.

A date will be set for a judge to hear a ruling against them.

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 11: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly using plastic scrap to make jaggery at Bhokaheri village under Bhopa police station here, as official said on Thursday.

 Police raided a jaggery manufacturing unite (kolhu) and arrested three persons on Wednesday, SHO, Bhopa police station Sanjive Kumar said.

Police have registered a case against five persons including the trio that was arrested while two of them managed to escape, he said, adding that two loaded tractor trollies of plastic scrap have been seized.

Meerut: The licence of a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has been suspended after a video showing its staff member providing fake Covid-19 report had gone viral.

"A video had gone viral in Meerut. We have registered a case in this regard. We have suspended the licence of the nursing home. Today, we have sealed it also. Strict action will be taken against anybody who will do something like this in this time of crisis,” said Anil Dhingra, District Magistrate, Meerut.

In the video, the person can be heard saying that they provide Covid-19 negative report for Rs 2,500, Dhingra stated.

Meerut CMO Rajkumar said, “In the video, a man from the hospital can be heard saying that he can arrange COVID-19 negative report and the person can get operation or other things done. We have identified the man. We have suspended the licence of the hospital and an FIR has been registered.”

Noida, Jul 28: A doctor admitted at a private hospital in Noida has been accused of sexually harassing a patient in his isolation ward, where both were undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the police said.

The 20-year-old woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the incident took place on Monday and based on that a case was filed at the local expressway police station, they said.

A senior police official said an investigation is underway and there might be lapses on part of the hospital which allegedly admitted a man and a woman in the same isolation ward, in violation of the norms.

The woman and the doctor had tested positive for coronavirus last week, according to officials.

"The woman was in the isolation ward of the private hospital. There was a man, a medical practitioner, who too was infected with coronavirus and was sharing the ward with her," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said.

He said the woman alleged molestation and upon being informed, the police immediately lodged a case and initiated a probe into the matter.

"There appears to be some irresponsibility on part of the hospital too. We are communication with the medical departments to check whether the patients were being kept in accordance with the guidelines," Mr Singh said.

He said the accused is still in isolation but the police will reach out for his statement following due protocols of COVID-19.

"All necessary action will be taken as per the truth that will emerge after a thorough investigation," Mr Singh said.
