Youth commits suicide live on webcam after argument with girlfriend

webcamLucknow, September 25: Ankit Srivastava, a 25-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide following a heated argument with his girlfriend in Varanasi. Ankit's parents told police that he killed himself while chatting live on the webcam with his girlfriend, who allegedly watched the horrifying incident but did nothing to stop him.

According to the family members, the mother found her son's body hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom. The webcam on his personal computer was switched on and broken mobile phone was lying on the floor. Family suspects that Ankit smashed his cell phone in anger before taking the extreme step.

Family also told police that Ankit, an event management professional, was short-tempered. He used to chat with the girl daily in the night. However, the police said that the probe is still on to verify whether Ankit committed suicide during video chat or following an heated argument with the girl on the phone.

The incident occurred on Saturday but came to light on Monday when police filed an FIR against the girl. Suprintendent of Police, Varanasi, City, Santosh Singh told reporters that Ankit had attempted suicide earlier also. His mother is a schoolteacher and father, a retired bank employee.

Kochi, Mar 24: A 54-year-old domestic passenger was arrested at the airport here for allegedly refusing to follow instructions given by doctorsfor prevention of the spread of novel coronavirus, police said here on Tuesday.

Lami Arackal from Ernakulam, who landed from Chennai at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery on Monday night, was arrested based on a complaint from health officials, they said.

He was, however, later released on bail.

Arackal allegedly refused to wear mask and follow other instructions to be observed by the passengers coming from other states as part of the measures to check COVID-19 spread.

He also allegedly misbehaved with the medical officers, police said.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.

Visakhapatnam, Jun 30: Two people were killed and four others were taken ill after benzene gas leaked at a pharmaceutical company at Parawada near here early on Tuesday morning, official sources said.

The situation was now under control as the leak was restricted to one unit in the Sainor Life Sciences company, the sources said.

The two killed were senior employees of the company, they said.

The injured persons have been admitted to a hospital in Gajuwaka, with one of them being put on ventilator support, the sources added.

District Collector V Vinay Chand and Police Commissioner R K Meena visited the company to take stock of the situation.

The cause of the leak that took place in a reactor unit at the plant is yet to be established.

The incident comes nearly two months after 11 people were killed and over 1000 taken ill after gas leak at a chemical plant here.
