Car crash leaves Ustad Faiyaz injured, wife dead

Hubli, October 26: Sarangi exponent Ustad Faiyaz Khan sustained injuries in the leg and his wife died in a road accident near Harihar in Davanagere district on Thursday.


The deceased is 39-year-old Parveen Banu.


According to Faiyaz Khan's son Sarfaraaz, six people, including three children, were travelling in a Maruti Swift Dzire which overturned near Anagawadi Cross around 12.30pm. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Davanagere.


Khan was returning from Bangalore to hometown Dharwad for the Bakrid. Ustad Khan is the only artist in Karnataka who has continued the tradition of Sarangi. His family's music lineage spans eight generations.

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 11: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly using plastic scrap to make jaggery at Bhokaheri village under Bhopa police station here, as official said on Thursday.

 Police raided a jaggery manufacturing unite (kolhu) and arrested three persons on Wednesday, SHO, Bhopa police station Sanjive Kumar said.

Police have registered a case against five persons including the trio that was arrested while two of them managed to escape, he said, adding that two loaded tractor trollies of plastic scrap have been seized.

Thane, Jul 19: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing his wife after picking up a fight as he did not like the food she cooked, Thane police said.

Sachin Godane, a resident of Gaikwad Pada in Ambernath, locked his two children and an aunt in one room of the house on Friday afternoon and brutally beat up his wife Chandrakala (28) with a log and then strangled her, said Assistant Inspector JB Bhoyer of Shivajinagar police station.

Godane has been remanded in police custody for four days, he added.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.
