To settle score, woman circulates nude pics, videos of colleague

November 13, 2012

cover-thumb Kochi, November 13: Professional jealousy between two girls turned sour when one of them, with the help of her Facebook friend circulated nude pictures and videos of the other through emails among senior officials and colleagues in their organization.

Kochi city police on Monday arrested the accused, Gayathri (24) of Thiruvananthapuram, and her friend, Aswin Nair (26) of Kuzhalmannam in Palakkad. The police team led by North sub inspector S Vijayashankar, which probed the case after the victim's mother lodged a complaint with Kochi range inspector general K Padmakumar on November 7, was able to unearth the plot.

The victim is 24-year-old Sindhu (name changed) of Kathrikadavu in the city. Both Sindhu and Gayathri were working in an FM channel in Dubai for the last one year.

Police are also on the lookout for another person who had helped Gayathri circulate the emails. According to police, Gayathri developed animosity towards Sindhu when the latter made changes to the programmes hosted by her. As both hailed from Kerala and had worked with various media groups, Gayathri dug up Sindhu's past and found out that she was a divorcee and had had an affair with one Aswin Kumar of Thrissur.

Gayathri contacted Aswin, a merchant navy officer, through FB and the two soon became friends. Aswin then revealed the details of his affair with Sindhu, who he had met in Thrissur where she worked with a local FM channel after her divorce.

It was while the two stayed together that Aswin took nude pictures and videos of Sindhu and saved it in his personal computer. In due course, their relationship got strained and Sindhu went to Dubai for employment.

Police said Gayathri took advantage of Aswin's hatred towards Sindhu. She asked him to send the pictures to a fake mail ID, which she had created solely for circulating the pictures. Though Aswin had earlier threatened Sindhu with publishing her nude pictures, he had not done so.

"We have collected all relevant evidence with the help of the city cyber police wing. Aswin was arrested when he landed in Kochi to see his friends. We also have the call details of the accused," police said. The accused were produced before the court which granted them bail.

Gorakhpur, Feb 16: Two unidentified policemen allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman in a hotel room near a railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur.

The incident took place on Thursday after which the woman informed her family members. The FIR was registered in the matter on Friday, police said.

A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including gang rape has been registered against two unidentified police men at the Gorakhnath police station, they said.

No arrests have been made so far in this connection, the police added.

Members of various political parties including Congress, Samajwadi Party, BSP and Purvanchal Sena staged a sit-in demonstration at the office of the district magistrate (DM) demanding suspension of all staff members of the Gorakhnath police station as well as a magisterial probe into the matter.

"The girl is undergoing treatment at the district hospital. She has made serious allegation of rape by two policemen. During investigation we found that the hotel has CCTV footage and also took the statement of guard," SSP Gorakhpur, Sunil Kumar Gupta said.

"Prima facie, the woman went to the hotel room willingly with some men. However, a probe is underway and culprits won't be spared," he said.

The woman told media that both the policemen thrashed her and accused her of being involved in prostitution.

She claimed that she requested them to leave her but they beat her and raped her. Later, they asked her to go home in an autorickshaw.

The survivor also told media and investigating policemen that she will be able to identify the hotel room where the crime took place as well as the two policemen who allegedly raped her.

The woman said she runs coaching classes at her home and her father is a labourer.
