Jaipur, Mar 11: A 19-year-old girl attending coaching classes for medical entrance exams in Kota was gang-raped in front of her male friend by two former jawans of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary.

The girl had gone on a bike ride with her friend when the two accused, posing as policemen, stopped them on Friday evening and took them to an isolated place in Kota's Dadabari area. They raped the girl under a tree and severely beat up the friend when he protested. While one of the accused was arrested on Saturday, the other is still on the run.

The girl and her friend both live in rented accommodations in Kota. The friend also takes medical coaching classes in Kota's Talbandi area.

The two accused, identified as Mohan Singh and Jai Kumar, are in their mid-thirties and residents of Talbandi and Shivpura areas in Kota respectively. They were expelled nearly 10 years ago from RAC following involvement in robbery cases.

"The girl and the boy were roaming around on a bike on Rawatbhata Road at around 8.30pm on Friday. Mohan and Jai Kumar who were on a white bike similar to the kind used by the police overtook the couple and stopped them," said Additional SP, Kota, Laxman Guar.

The two men first asked the boy and the girl what they were doing in that isolated area after dark. "When the boy said that they were just hanging around, one of the two men asked for the bike's registration papers. When the boy said he did not have them with him, the duo said that their bike would be seized and they would have to come to the nearby police outpost," said the officer.

The officer said Jai Kumar forced the girl and the boy to sit on his bike, while Mohan drove the boy's bike. "Jai Kumar took the girl and the boy to an isolated place. Mohan also reached there on the boy's bike. They then started misbehaving with the girl and then raped her," said the officer.

The boy pleaded with them and even offered them Rs 3,000 which he had on him, the police officer said adding that the boy promised to get more money if they left the girl alone.

"However, the two men ignored his pleas and took turns at raping the girl. In the dense forest area nobody heard the girl's cries for help," said the officer.

They left the girl and the boy there and fled after the rape. "The girl went to the Dadabari police station with her friend and lodged an FIR. One of the policemen at the police station managed to identify one of the culprits as Jai Kumar. The white-coloured motorcycle used by Jai Kumar also matched the description given by the victim," said the officer.

A police team was sent to Kumar's house. "However, he escaped after jumping over the boundary wall at the rear of his house. We arrested Mohan Singh on Saturday. A massive search has been launched for Jai Kumar," said the officer.

Pratapgarh, Jun 2: In a shocking incident, a young man was tied to a tree and set afire by the family of a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh late on Monday night.

The man, 25, was a resident of Bhujauni village under Fatanpur police station, and he died on the spot.

Enraged over the incident, his family members and local people turned violent and set two police vehicles on fire.

Additional forces were rushed in to control the situation that remains tense.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Pratapgarh, Abhishek Singh, "Some people barged into the house of Ambika Patel and dragged him away. They then tied Patel to a tree some distance away and set him on fire after sprinkling petrol on him. They fled immediately after." Agitated family members and villagers assembled at the site and set a 112 police response vehicle (PRV) and another police jeep on fire. They were demanding immediate arrest and action against the accused.

The official said that Patel's relatives claimed that he was having an affair with a woman from his village and this had resulted in many face-offs between the families.

Patel had reportedly shared a video clip of the woman on social media a few months ago further increasing tension between the families.

The woman's family members had registered a police complaint against Patel in this connection at the Fatanpur police station that led to his arrest. He was released from jail recently, police added.

The woman had been recently selected as a police constable and was posted to Kanpur.

The SP said that an FIR had been registered on the complaint of the victim's family and efforts were on to arrest the accused.

Surat, Jul 16: Woman police constable Sunita Yadav, who had a confrontation with a minister's son over lockdown violation which led to his arrest here in Gujarat, claimed she has resigned from service. However, a senior police official has denied it.

Prakash Kanani, the son of Gujarat Minister of State for Health Kumar Kanani, and his two friends were arrested on Sunday for allegedly violating the lockdown and night curfew orders in Surat, a COVID-19 hotspot, a senior police official earlier said.

Yadav, who is being hailed on social media for taking action against the minister's son, told news channels on Wednesday that she had put in her papers.

"I have resigned because I did not receive support from my superior officers. I was only doing my duty as a constable. It's the fault of our system that these people (like the minister's son) think they are VVIPs (very very important persons)," she said.

However, a senior police official here denied that she has resigned.

"She has not given her resignation. The inquiry is still on and technically she cannot resign at this juncture," Surat Police Commissioner R B Brahmbhatt said.

Yadav's action had led to the registration of an FIR and arrest of Prakash Kanani and two of his friends for alleged violation of lockdown and curfew norms in Surat city.

The arrests came after a video of a heated exchange between them and Yadav, who pulled up the trio for violation of curfew, surfaced on social media. The trio was later released on bail.

Since the incident, Yadav is being hailed on social media.

While some social media users called her "Lady Singham" (referring to the tough cop in the Hindi film "Singham"), some suggested she contest the 2022 state Assembly polls against Kumar Kanani, who represents Varachha constituency in Surat district.
