Seven killed in road accident near Kolar

Kolar, Aug 27: Seven people were killed and many others injured when their mini van collided head on with a truck at Lakshmisagar Gate near Narasapur under Vemagal police limits, about 20 kilometers from here on Monday.

The victims were reportedly returning after attending a marriage engagement ceremony when the accident took place around 5 p.m, police sources said. Trafiic on NH 4 was affected for some time following the accident. The injured persons are being rushed to different hospitals RL Jalappa hospital and district SNR hospital. Senior police officials including SP Ram Nivas Sepat rushed to the spot. It was not immediately known how the ghastly accident took place.

Thrissur, Jun 11: Volunteers of People for Animal Welfare Services rescued a dog that had its mouth sealed with insulation tape around it for two weeks in Ollur of Thrissur district.

The dog has now been shifted to an animal shelter home.

Recently two elephants died in Kerala. One pregnant elephant died after consuming crackers wrapped in some fruits in Palakkad.

Another elephant died in Malappuram after it was found seriously injured in North Nilambur forest range of the district.

Mandya, Jun 14: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two children were drowned in a pond at Beeranahalli village in Nagamangala taluk of this district on Sunday.

Police said that the deceased have been identified as Geeta (40), and her two children Savita(19) and Soumya(14).

Savaitha is a degree student while Soumya was studying in 9th standard. The trio drowned in a pond where they had gone to wash their cows. The locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them but could not save.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 22:An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act jumped into the sea on Wednesday morning when he was taken for evidence collection at Kasaba in Kasargode district, police said.

Accused Mahesh was arrested following a complaint by his neighbour on Tuesday evening.

The police said that they took the accused to the seashore to collect evidence in the case when Mahesh jumped into the sea. Two police officials too jumped in after him to catch hold of him but could not locate Mahesh.

Later, swimmers were deployed to try and locate the missing man.
