Bangalore, Aug 30: For 25-year-old Sanjay Mahesh Angadi , it was just another working day. He was walking on 1st Main, Chamarajpet, around noon when he heard a strange noise and turned around. To his shock, a BMTC bus was hurtling towards him and before he knew what was happening , it crushed him to death.

The bus was plying between Chamarajpet and Vijaynagar. The driver stopped at the Royan Circle and then started again. A few minutes later, he started going in a zig-zag manner, said a passenger. Initial investigation into the accident said it may have been a technical snag resulting in brake failure . The bus knocked down seven parked vehicles before mowing down Sanjay, a field executive with a private internet service company. The damaged vehicles included a water tanker, two autorickshaws , three two-wheelers and a goods auto carrier. Sanjay was walking to Chamarajpet 2nd Main to attend to a problem when the accident occurred . The technician, a native of Banahatti in Bagalkot, stayed in Rajajinagar I Block and is survived by wife Suma Angadi and a 6-month-old daughter.

Bus driver Naveen, attached to the 16th depot, fled the scene leaving behind the vehicle (KA 01 F 4955). He was later arrested by Chamarajpet police. "He claims the brakes failed. But we're waiting for the RTO officer's report which will confirm if there was any technical snag," police said.

Chaos after accident

Enraged onlookers pelted stones at the bus and damaged the windshield. Their fury increased when no BMTC official visited the spot and traffic was affected for nearly 30 minutes as over 40 protesters blocked traffic.

Balakrishna Gowda, a passenger in the killer bus, told mediapersons, "The bus started from Makkala Koota stop and suddenly started swerving. I stood up and saw the driver trying to stop the vehicle by standing on the brake pedal. The bus brushed a mini-truck and headed to the parked vehicles. Only after getting down did we hear that a pedestrian had died," he said. Autorickshaw driver Shanta Kumar saw the driver taking an injured person in an auto. "After the accident, the driver got down and bundled Nanjunde Gowda, who sustained injuries to his right leg, into an auto and left the accident spot," he said.

Sanjay's colleagues staged a protest outside the KIMS hospital mortuary, condemning BMTC officials for running buses with technical snags. BMTC announced compensation of Rs 15,000 to his family.

Hyderabad, MAY 28: A three-year-old boy who accidentally fell into a newly drilled open borewell in Telangana's Medak district was found dead in the early hours of Thursday, police said.

The kid's body was retrieved at around 4 am after a nearly 10 hours' long rescue operation involving different agencies, they said.

"He died a while before we evacuated him, most likely due to the mud that covered him from the top sealing off necessary oxygen supply, " Medak District Superintendent of Police Chandana Deepti told PTI.

The boy had accidentally slipped into the 120- feet borewell at around 5 pm on Wednesday in an agricultural field located in Papannapet mandal of the district when he was walking with his grandfather and father, police earlier said.

As part of rescue efforts, a parallel trench was dug along the borewell hole with the help of earth excavating machines and oxygen was supplied into it, but the efforts went in vain as the boy's body was found stuck at a depth of around 25 feet, the police said.

Apart from the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were also involved in the rescue operation.

The borewell into which the child fell was one among the three dug by the family since Tuesday night to try and find water for their fields. But none of them yielded any water, police had said.

New Delhi, Feb 10: A 44-year-old man allegedly killed his daughter and son before ending his life by jumping in front of a Delhi metro train at Haiderpur Badli Mor station on Sunday, police said.

No suicide note has been recovered, but police claimed that the man, Madhur Malani, was depressed since his sandpaper-manufacturing factory was closed some six months ago due to financial crunch leaving him jobless. Madhur's parents had been supporting his family financially since then.

He used to stay with his wife Rupali, daughter Samiksha (14) and six-year-old son Shraiyans at a rented house in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area, they said.

Rupali was not at home when Madhur strangled their children. He might have also smothered their daughter but the exact cause of death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem reports arrive, a police official said.

After killing his two children, he jumped in front of an approaching train at Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station following which he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him 'brought dead', the official said.

Metro services on the Yellow Line were briefly delayed due to the incident.

"Delay in services from Samaypur Badli to GTB Nagar due to a passenger on track at Haiderpur Badli Mor," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.

After about 15 minutes, it again tweeted that normal services have been restored. The Delhi Metro's Yellow Line connects Samaypur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon.

The suicide was reported to the police around 5.40 pm while the Shalimar Bagh Police station received a call about the killings around 6.50 pm.

On reaching the house, police found bodies of the children lying in beds in two rooms. During enquiry, it was learnt that their father has left the house, a senior police officer said.

While police were trying to trace Madhur, they learnt about a suicide at the metro station. On verifying the details, it surfaced that Madhur committed suicide after killing his children, the officer said.

Rupali told police that she had gone to a nearby market around 3 pm and on returning home she found the bodies of her children while her husband was missing.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered and investigation was underway, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Vijayanta Arya said.
