Jeddah, Oct 7: Tweeters on social media sites circulated a video clip showing a man, most probably a citizen, harassing his housemaid.

Users and followers of the tweets think his wife posted the video to publicize the shameful behavior of her husband as an act of revenge. The video sparked widespread condemnations against the wife.

harassmentThe incident reveals one more incident of harassment of maids in the Kingdom.

Comments posted varied between rejection and acceptance of the action taken by the wife as meant by the hashtag: A Saudi woman exposes her traitor husband yields top tweets and follow-up on the social media website, Twitter. Many tweeters stressed the importance of keeping martial disputes within the house or seek the help of competent agencies to avoid defamation.

Female tweeters, on the other hand, approved the action taken by the wife, justifying it as the ultimate solution for those who play with marital life by harassing housemaids.

Others accused the housemaid and said the man would not have dared to harass her unless she consented. She could have come out clean if she had drawn the wife’s attention to the husband’s misbehavior.

Many tweeters sought the video circulation be stopped as it amounts to infringement of privacy of the citizen.

Others posted a number of fatwas issued by preachers and members of the Council of Senior Scholars criminalizing the actions of both the wife and her husband.

Khalid Abu Rashid, a legal expert, warned the public against circulating the video as they could face penal action.

Abdulsalam Al-Suqaabi, a family consultant, said: “Our community culture should at any rate be not involved in publishing scandals. To err is human.”

Weaam Al-Medaifie, a female family consultant, said: “In such cases, they both should resolve the issues themselves.”

Palghar, Mar 7: Police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating several shopkeepers in Maharashtra's Thane, Pune and Nashik by making phone calls in a woman's voice, police said on Friday.

The accused, Shashikant Ambekar (42), a resident of Palghar, was arrested in the last week of February, they said.

"He used to note down the phone numbers mentioned on different shops and call the owners in a woman's voice to order some things from them. He would tell them that he had a Rs 2000 currency note and needed change," an official said.

"He would ask the shopkeepers to send smaller denomination notes for exchange. He would wait at the entrance of buildings and when the delivery man arrived, he used to tell that he was there on behalf of the ''caller woman''.

"He would then take the currency notes from the delivery man saying he would get the Rs 2,000 note from the woman. However, he would disappear from the scene," the official said.

Police have seized Rs 1,85,000 from the accused and found that so far he has committed 22 similar crimes in different parts of the state.
