Day Care Centre' for physically challenged inaugurated

Mangalore, June 19: With the inauguration of a 'Day Care Centre' for physically challenged persons in Kokkada village of Belthangady taluk, one of the promises of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa to the endosulfan victims of the region, fulfilled on Sunday.

Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje inaugurated the Centre, which came into existence with the joint effort of Karnataka State Government, Dakshina Kannada district administration and Shri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development programme.

Speaking on the occasion she said that the main intention of the Centre is to create an atmosphere to take care of those physically challenged people, who cannot be left alone at home, while going out for day to day affairs or to participate in a special programme. The Centre assures thorough care of the physically challenged victims from morning to evening, she said.

She also clarified that the Centre is not confined to the victims of endosulfan, and that all the physically challenged people of the area can take benefit of the facility.

Admitting that a permanent rehabilitation centre in the vicinity for the people, who are suffering the ill-effects of indiscriminate aerial spraying of endosulfan by Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation on cashew plantations in the late 1980s, is very much necessary, the minister said that a Rs 20 lakh project is in pipeline in this regard. 10 cents of land has already been purchased for this purpose, she added.

District In-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar and Deputy Commissioner Dr Chennappa Gowda were present among others.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: The Doctors at Fortis Hospital, here on Friday, successfully treated a 97-year-old patient who suffered an embolic stroke due to calcified stenosis (narrowing of an artery resulting in restriction of blood flow).

In a release, the Hospital authorities stated that the team of doctors led by Dr Rajpal Singh, Director and Interventional Cardiologist, Fortis Hospital, Bangalore successfully conducted Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS) to increase the blood flow in the blocked areas which had resulted in stroke following stringent safety protocols and ensuring proper segregation of COVID and Non-COVID patients at the hospital.

Carotid arteries serve as the main channels which supply the blood flow to the brain and facial structures. Any significant narrowing in these arteries can cause a brain stroke, a mini-stroke, headache, and neurological symptoms.

Mangaluru, Mar 27: Nine throat swab samples that were sent for testing of the coronavirus, have been declared as negative while samples of four more persons are currently being tested, official sources said on Friday.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B. Rupesh said that 2,902 people are under home quarantine in the district as of today while three were admitted to hospitals for observation.

Around 38,051 people have been inspected, so far, here in this district.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) was reprimanded for withholding information, sought by a candidate regarding an examination held in 2005 for Gazeted Probationary posts, by the State Information Commissioner here on Thursday.

According to official sources, the State Information Commissioner NP Ramesh, while disposing off a petition by the candidate, who had written an examination conducted by the KPSC for the gazeted probationary posts held in 2005, had directed to provide the information sought by the candidate, free of costs within ten days.

The State Information Commissioner in his order had termed the conduct of the KPSC as against the spirit of transparency among the public authorities.
