Bengaluru, Aug 30: Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka has urged the Election Commission to take immediate steps to hold the byelection to 17 Assembly seats in the State which have fallen vacant after the disqualification of the rebel MLAs.
In a memorandum submitted to Election Commission of India, through the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, here on Friday, the JD(S) leader T R Prasad Gowda said that as many as 17 assembly seats in the Assembly has remained vacant following Speaker’s action in disqualifying as many 14 Congress and three JD(S) MLAs from the house.
Stating that the members who were disqualified from the house, had approached the Supreme Court, where the matter was pending and no any respite had been given to the rebel MLAs, the JD(S) leader had appealed the ECI to take measures to fill the vacancies in the Assembly.
