Doha: Spectacular ceremony marks the end of KMCA Tipu Sultan Cup

Doha: Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association (KMCA), an ICC affiliate organization, unveiled their best so far of the extravagant display of well-planned ceremonies witnessed by a full house crowd on May 21 amidst fantastic finals match between the SKMWA XI vs Tulu Koota XI.

Keeping with the theme of the tournament, to rekindle the memories of one of the valiant sons of Mother India, the Mysore Tiger, Tipu Sultan, KMCA brought to life the glamour of the evening. Tipu along with his marchers led a caravan of eight Land Cruisers escorting the guests.

The Indian hockey legend Padmashree Zafar Iqbal acompanied by Munawwar Haziq was the guests of honor. Girish Kumar, President of ICC & K M Varghese, President of IBPN were the chief guests. The caravan made it through the ground and onto the pitch and the Guests were greeted by the KMCA President and the Executive Committee with the Two finalist teams lined up along the length of the Pitch. The Guest of Honor was led through the pitch, greeted by the players and onto the Red Carpet lined with Karnataka Flag Bearers on either sides. He briefly met with the ICC affiliated organization heads and dignitaries before being escorted to the stage to witness the second innings of the Finals. Tipu marched with his escorts to the designated darbar set up befitting his stature.

A spectacular final unfolded as the SKMWA XI chased a respectable score of 113 runs set by the TuluKoota XI in 12 overs, who won the toss and elected to bat first. The match saw some towering sixers by either sides and SKMWA XI completed their successful chase in 9.4 overs with a final six to the cheer of the 500 odd crowd. A complete 360 entertainment for the sports enthusiasts packed into one evening at the Old Ideal Indian School Grounds.

The stage program of the closing ceremony commenced with the Recitation of the Noble Qur'an by Master Ahmed, s/o; Shakir Ahmed followed by a brief introduction to KMCA and its activities presented by the Master of the ceremony Mr. Ahmed Saeed Assadi. The Guests were formally greeted with Qatari dates presented by children of KMCA members. The KMCA Vice President, Mr. Saquib Raza Khan presented the welcome address to the dignitaries on the stage, the Chief Guests, Guests of Honor, The Sponsors, Mr. Hameed of AlFardan Exchange & Mr. Satish of QDC, the dignitaries off the stage and the spectators.

A felicitation of Padmashree Zafar Iqbal was undertaken by the KMCA Executive committee followed by a speech by the Guest of Honor where he appreciated the camaraderie of the Indians residing outside of India and in this instance he was overwhelmed by the honor bestowed upon him by the Indian residents in Qatar of Karnataka origin. He brought forth some of his memory from his playing days and how hardwork and dedication brought him to the national team. He had last visited Doha in 1984 and remembers playing at the Khalifa Stadium and has fond memories of that instance of his visit to Qatar. He congratulated the Winning team and the runners-up and the organisers, KMCA for creating the opportunity for the players to shine at the same time creating a stage for varied sporting personalities to be recognized.

The Chief guests Mr. Girish Kumar, President of ICC addressed the gathering next and commended KMCA for the extraordinary show and a successful 2nd Edition of Tipu Sultan Cup. He specially emphasized that ICC Affiliated organizations of Karnataka Origin are the most active in community engagement. Mr. K M Varghese, President of IBPN, congratulated KMCA and was delighted to be part of the well-organized function and promised continued support to such initiatives.

As a first, the Vote of Thanks was presented by the KMCA President, Mr. Niyaz Ahmed as he expressed that he was overwhelmed by the response and support he had received during the planning of the Tournament and felt the need to formally thank each and everyone himself. President Niyaz thanked the Chief Guests, the Guests of Honor for their earnest acceptance of invitation for the closing ceremony, the ICC affiliated organizations for participating with their teams in the tournament, Community leaders of different organizations - Ravi Shetty, Deepak Shetty, Abdul Majeed, Norbert Corda, V S Mannangi, Arun Kumar, Milan Arun, Ibrahim Byri, Prabhakar, Abdulla Monu, Seetharam Shetty, Ramchandra Shetty, Asmat Ali, Dr Sanjay Kudri, Alexis Catelino and community activist Iqbal Manna - were present on the occasion. The prize distribution followed by conferring awards for the tournament officials. Umpires - Dr. Sanjay Kudri& Mr. Imthiyaz were awarded by Mr. Ravi Shetty, President of TuluKoota Qatar. The Scorers - Mr. Amjad& Mr. AnandBalu given away by Mr. Abdul Majeed, President of SKMWA, The Commentators - Mr. Habibunnabi, Mr. Ejaz Ahmed & Mr. Naveen were awarded by Mr. Nazeer Pasha, President of QISF and The Audio Technician cum DJs, the Father and Son Team of Mr. Anil Bolur& Master Krish who were given the awards by Mr. Deepak Shetty, President of KSQ.

The Next set of prizes were the individual trophies along with a cash voucher for the Runners-Up team and the Winning Team members.

The Man of the Match for the Finals Match was awarded to Imran from SKMWA XI for his unbeaten 50 runs, 1 wicket & a Catch.

The Man of the Tournament was bestowed with the BAT of the Tournament. KMCA, continuing the practice of introducing unique ideas, had a ceremonial bat signed by the guests of honour during the opening ceremony, Mr. Farman Basha& Ms. Sakina Khatun, the Paralympic power-lifters, and then passed on to all the players and later fixed on a podium. the bat was brought to Tipu Sultan by the senapathi and Tipu handed the bat to the KMCA Sports Secretary Mr. Zia-ul-Haq as a ceremonial guesture of the honor it holds. The Bat was then signed by the Guest of Honor Padmashree Zafar Iqbal and presented to Namsheed from SKMWA XI who was ranked the all round best performer of the tournament by the match officials.

A Special recognition was bestowed by Zafar Iqbal upon Ms. Milan Arun for her ardent support to KMCA events, her mentoring of the KMCA Ladies Wing and especially for her detailed programming of the opening & closing ceremonies of the Tipu Sultan Cup.

The day ended with the giving away of the Runners-UP Team Trophy to TuluKoota XI, received by the Team Captain Mr. Ashmath Ali along with the TuluKoota President Mr. Ravi Shetty.

The Winners Team Trophy, the Tipu Sultan Cup was presented to the SKMWA XI Team Captain Mr. Kader along with SKMWA President Mr. Abdul Majeed.

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Dammam: President of Indian Social Forum, Eastern Province Mr.Wasim Rabbani urged immediate intervention of Indian government to help Non Residential Indians who are in trouble due to corona pandemic in Saudi Arabia.

He said in a press rease that expatriate Indians are in concern  as number of corona infected people and  deaths are increasing in danger level.

Hea said, "the Saudi health minister's statement a few days ago indicates that the situation in Saudi needs to be taken more seriously with precautionary methods. There are concerns among expatriates because the number of people infected with the coronavirus and the number of deaths reported in various provinces are increasing at an alarming rate."

"Saudi Government and Health Ministry are taking excellent precautionary measures, however, in the coming days expect to see the number of cases to increase in Saudi Arabia. The Indian government needs to take diplomatic and immediate intervention to ensure the treatment of Indian expatriates considering the number of effected people increasing", He said.

He also urged that the Embassy and the Government of India should ensure qaurantiane faculty for Indian expatriates and arrange special low cost flights to bring back expatriates who would like to return home country.

" Government of India and Indian embassy need to intervene immediately to ensure that the quarantine system is in place for Indian expatriates as the facilities in the rooms where the residents are staying together are very limited. There should also be a mechanism to organize low-cost flight services for expatriates who are ready to go home. The government system should also be able to accommodate the expatriates in special quarantine areas in hometown as soon they arrive in India", he urged.
