Mangaluru, Jul 9: B Janardhana Poojary, who was the first senior Congress leader to demand CBI probe into the sensational suicide case of IAS officer DK Ravi over a year ago, on Saturday went all guns blazing against chief minister Siddaramaiah for hesitating to handover Mangaluru DySP M K Ganapathi suicide case to CBI and backing tainted minister K J George.

Speaking to media persons in Mangaluru, the veteran leader urged Mr Siddaramaiah to seek the resignation of Mr George, whose name was mentioned by the police officer before committing suicide in Madikeri. "Let the chief minister seek George's resignation or else sack him from the cabinet," he said.

The former Union minister in the Indira Gandhi government took on his own party government in the state and opined that the chief minister has failed to understand the pulse of the people. He also questioned the police as to why the interview DSP Ganapathi gave to media in Madikeri can't be considered as his suicide note.

"Nobody would speak lie while on death bed. Hence, the statement that Ganapathi made before the media should be considered as his 'dying declaration' and an inquiry should be ordered based on it," he suggested.

Pointing to apparent delay on part of police in filing a first information report in connection with Ganapathi's death, Poojary sought answer from Siddaramaiah for the lapse.

"Though the case has been handed over to CID, the question whether a fair probe is possible, will linger. CID is an investigation agency that works directly under the state government. Hence the government should hand over case to CBI. FIR should be registered against all persons Ganapathi mentioned in his interview. In the meantime, the CM should seek the resignation of George or else sack him," he said.

KPCC president G Parameshwara, who is also the home minister, should prepare a report on Ganapathi's case either directly or through a sub-committee, Poojary said. He went on criticizing the Siddaramaiah alleging him of not understanding the Congress culture. "Don't try to destroy Congress in making efforts to save one person (George). It is party, not individuals, above all," Poojary warned Siddaramaiah.

Bengaluru, Jun 26: Karnataka's Commercial Taxes Department has sealed off an undeclared warehouse with imported goods worth Rs 4 crore in Bengaluru and found 60 GST registrations linked to a Chinese national from Wuhan.

The tax department officials found 25,446 China-made electronic and fast-moving consumer goods worth Rs 4 crore stored in the warehouse which was not declared to the tax authorities.

Commissioner of Commercial Taxes MS Srikar said in a statement that the officers noticed that one person from Wuhan City, China, got the premises in Bengaluru on lease.

They also found that about 60 registrations (both central and state jurisdictions) under the GST Act, in the name of a number of persons for online trading of imported China-made goods, had a single address which was vacant.

Most of the registrations were found irregular in the filing of returns and payment of tax. Majority of the firms either filed nil returns or were non-filers. The registration data showed that one business was registered in 2017-18, 43 in 2018-19, 14 in 2019-20 and two in 2020-21. Most of the 60 firms were private limited companies and 24 persons were interchangeably directors in 58 firms.

At the time of raid, neither the lessee, the Chinese national, nor any of the other 59 registered taxable persons were available at the business premises and no one came forward to participate in the proceedings in spite of providing sufficient time.

It is learnt that the Chinese national is operating the business from Wuhan City since January 2020 with the assistance of some of his agents/employees in Bengaluru.

It has also been learnt that multiple registrations are being taken for a better rating on e-commerce platforms, Srikar said.

The raids were led by Nitesh K Patil, Additional Commissioner, Enforcement, South Zone.
The Commercial Taxes Department is closely watching the genuineness of newly registered persons and conducting post-registration verification visits.

Any registration taken with mala fide intention of evading taxes will be dealt with seriously, the Commissioner said.

Amidst heightened border tensions between Indian and China, senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's two year old tweet comparing his party with Communist Party of China started going viral.

The tweet, dated 26 June, 2016 reads: "Communist Party of China & BJP have done numerous works in social field. This way, there is tremendous similarities between the two parties." (sic)

Twitterati dug up this tweet after over 20 Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week.

Soon after Chouhan's tweet went viral, netizens took to the micro-blogging site and slammed BJP. One user said, "Interesting comment by Hindutva ITSELF to recognise how similar they are with China. No doubt. Both believe in Dragon Throne .... and brutal absolute control." Another user said, "No wonder the BJP & China both agree that PLA never crossed into Indian territory."
