Addressing a public function after inaugurating the district-level World Environment Day programme at the AUP School, Udinoor near Trikkarippur,on Monday Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan said that it is the duty of society to conserve nature to help the next generation get clean drinking water and natural resources.

The State initiated ‘Haritha Keralam' scheme has been conceived keeping in mind a healthy and sustainable life in the State.

While adopting lenient attitude towards all living beings on plant Earth, its is equally pertinent to remember that natural resources are not over-exploited for pecuniary gains, he pointed out.

Vegetation is essential to maintain balance in the eco system. It is equally important to nurture the planted saplings till they are equipped to fend for themselves and students, teachers and parents should shoulder the responsibility of ensuring that the saplings are well maintained.

Mr. Chandrasekharan while addressing the function revealed that he had planted 10 saplings in his residential premises at Perubala near here to mark the day.

The function, presided over by Thrikkaripur MLA, M. Rajagopalan, was attended by district panchayat president A.G.C. Basher, who formally opened the bio-diversity park at the venue. District Collector K. Jeevanbabu gave away the ‘Vanamithra Puraskaram' to P.P. Divakaran Kadinjhimoola.
