Drop Mahadevappa from Cabinet: Eshwarappa

Shivamogga,Jul 8: Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to drop Public Works Department Minister H C Mahadevappa from the Cabinet following his son's involvement in illegal sand mining.

eshwarappaSpeaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, he said the minister's son is involved in illegal sand mining.

Besides, he has misused the minister's official vehicle, he said. When the issue was raised during the session, the minister has given irresponsible statements, he said.

It is said that the minister's son travelled in the government official vehicle to Mysuru deputy commissioner's office and held a meeting with the officials, Eshwarappa said.

If this is true, Mahadevappa should step down from the minister's position owning moral responsibility immediately, he demanded.

Referring to Marigowda's issue, he said Marigowda, confidant of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, should be arrested for abusing the Mysuru deputy commissioner.

Bengaluru, Apr 14: The Congress in Karnataka on Tuesday welcomed the extention of the COVID-19 lockdown till May 3, though it flayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not announcing any programme to support the slowed down economy.

Reacting to the lockdown extension, Congress president D K Shivakumar said it was much needed to control the virus but expressed his displeasure for not offering any relief measure to uplift the economy which is witnessing slump.

"We had expectation that some package would be offered but that was not done. The manufacturing sector, service sector, agriculture sector and even the medical sector was looking for some relief but that was not the talking point of the Prime Minister," Shivakumar told reporters.

However, he maintained that the party would cooperate with the Centre in its fight against COVID-19.

Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah said he was "disappointed" that there was no programme announced to improve the economy, which is at the lowest level in 30 years.

"The economy has collapsed. Never ever in 30 years it had witnessed such a downfall. Industries are closing down.

Agriculture in bad shape. poeple have no money. Villages are in distress," the former chief minister said.

He opined that Modi should have make some announcement with regard to economic programmes and assistance to the weaker section.

"Labourers today are on the streets. Their programmes do not touch them. People had lots of expectations which are now meaningless," Siddaramaiah said.

However, he underlined that he does not oppose the lockdown and appealed to the people to support it wholeheartedly.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: A red alert has been issued in several districts in Karnataka due to heavy rainfall in the state since last two-three days, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.

"Red alert has been announced in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Chickamagalur, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hassan, due to heavy rainfall in the region from last two-three days," CS Patil, Director, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru said.

Bengaluru, Apr 2: A health worker, who was part of a team fighting against the Coronavirus disease in the city, was allegedly attacked by a mob and duped of her belongings at the Sadiq Layout in the Shivajinagar area on Thursday.

According to police sources, the health worker came under attack by a mob of youths when she was collecting data from those who were sick in the locality.
