Dubai: India-Pak PPL launched; 12 corporate teams to vie for trophy

Dubai, Oct 13: Punjab Premier League, a tournament backed by Bollywood stars and involving 12 corporate teams, was launched by actor Anil Kapoor in a colourful function held at the Crowne Plaza in Dubai last weekend. The tournament will start on October 29.

This tournament’s unique feature is that six teams under the district names of Punjab in India will battle against another six teams named after the Punjab district in Pakistan. The Punjab provinces comprised parts of both India and Pakistan before the partition.

India’s Punjab teams has been named as Amristar Armours, Chandigarh Cheetahs, Bathinda Blasters, Jalandhar Jaguars, Mansa Masters and Patiala Panthers while Pakistan’s Punjab teams are Faisalabad Fighters, Gujranwala Grenades, Lahore Legends, Multan Makers, Rawalpindi Rangers and Sialkot Studs.

Speaking to Gulf News after the launch, renowned coach Irfan Ansari, the tournament director said: “Each corporate teams in the UAE will pick one district name and each team should have three Punjabi players from either countries.”

The teams are being supported by Bollywood actors Aditya Roy Kapoor, Ragini Khanna, Ranvir Singh, Akshay Oberoi, Deepika Padukone and Farhan Akhtar. It is the first time that actors are personally endorsing their support for a cricket team.

The tournament has prize money of Dh75,000. “For the first time, the best of technology will be used during the matches. LED bails will be introduced during matches and online scoring with aerial coverage using a mini drone will be seen. The match will comprise 30 league games with two semi-finals and a final,” said Ansari.

Shaji-ul-Mulk, the General Secretary of the Ajman Cricket Council is the tournament director while Parmila Kumari is the tournament administrator. Internationally branded clothing (TYKA) will be distributed to all the players. The launch was attended by, apart from Anil Kapoor, Khalfan Ali Khalfan Nakbi of Sharjah Police, Jamal Bin Ahmad (Assistant Director of Chamber of Commerce), Badr Buhannad, Col. Rashid Al Mutawa, Balwinder Singh Sran and Novinder Deep, the founder of this tournament.

During the launch, former UAE captain Khurram Khan, who retired recently, was felicitated for his 14 years of service to the national team. The tournament has received huge sponsorship support with Dart Link Group, UAE Exchange, Mega Gulf Transport, Zulekha Hospital, Fox Lights & Grips, Shrey & TYKA, CricHQ, Al Talaa Building Material, KRC Hospitality, Swiss Caprice and Advantage Motors backing the event.

Manama: Kannada Sangha Bahrain President Mr. Pradeep Shetty and Vice President of Bahrain's prestigious KHK HEROES Foundation Mohammed Mansoor on Monday, May 11, met The Second Secretary (Consular & CW) of the Embassy of India, Bahrain Mr. P. K. Chowdhury in the Indian Embassy. 

The situation, problems and relief of Indians and Kannadigas residing in Bahrain during the COVID 19 Pandemic was discussed in detail. The distribution of food (dry ration) kits, as well as those seeking repatriation, was also discussed in the meeting.

When asked about the repatriation of distressed Kannadigas, the Second Secretary said that though the number of Kannadigas who wish to return home is not much compared to the rest of the states, still Embassy is compiling all the information and will do the needful soon. 

Mr. Shetty and Mr. Mansoor told the Second Secretary that those who are in problem can contact them and they are ready to do their best.

Dubai, May 20: Dubai-based Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club’s humanitarian services in charge Naseer Karaje team have appreciated the efforts of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Mangaluru Airport director, NGOs of Mangaluru, and MLA for extending a royal welcome to second batch of repatriates from Dubai that landed at Mangaluru Airport on May 18.

There was so much of confusions when 1st batch of repatriation flight landed in Mangaluru airport on 12th May due to lack of proper arrangements and co ordination.

This time due to proper arrangements and special supervision by the DC everything was driven smoothly. It has given a confidence to all the Manglurean expats of Dubai in returning to their native places, the KSCC said.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) organized Blood Donation Camp at Latifa Hospital, Oud Mehta Dubai on April 23rd, 2020 in association with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and with support from Community Development Authority (CDA) Government of Dubai.

Blood Donation Drive started in the morning at 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Around 48 people participated in this drive and donated blood to support the Dubai Blood Bank.

A potential shortage of blood for transfusions has been occurred due to a significant reduction in voluntary blood donations during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current pandemic, health services are now running with shortages of blood availability. To support the DHA Blood Bank KSCC taken initiative to ensure that blood donations continued and are safe for both the donor and the recipient.

After taking safety precaution and safe distance during the blood donation donors feeling happy and honored to participate and donate blood at this pandemic situation. Club Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi was also present during this event.

KSCC appreciated all the blood donors and be grateful to Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Community Development Authority (CDA), and Government of Dubai for their association for this event. They also thanked the volunteers and supporters.
