Mangaluru, Aug 8: Over 180 air passengers had a harrowing time after Dubai-Mangaluru Air India Express flight IX814 was diverted to Coimbatore on Thursday due to inclement weather in coastal Karnataka.
AIE officials said flight IX814 with 183 passengers on board, that was scheduled to land at 4.15am, was diverted owing to heavy rain, gales and lightning lashing the airport. The flight subsequently landed at MIA at 3.15pm.
AIE sources said that the aircraft subsequently left for Muscat as flight IX817. Noting that the airline was prepared for such weather disruptions, especially the kind that the coast has been facing for the past three days, the airline sources said poor visibility and gales meant that the aircraft commander took the decision to divert the flight. The airline then arranged for other crew to bring the aircraft to Mangaluru, sources said.
