Duo uses bitcoins to buy drugs online, arrested

New Delhi, Nov 7: The Delhi police on Monday claimed to have arrested two persons for procuring drugs over the Internet. The police said that the accused bought the drug “Ecstasy” using Bitcoins. The police has recovered 42 grams of fine quality Ecstasy tablets and 20 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) from the accused which were to be supplied to rave parties in Delhi-NCR.

Senior police officers said they suspect there is a large nexus involving people who physically supply these drugs.

Also known as Love Pill, Ecstasy is a recreational drug. It heightens perceptions of colour and sound and supposedly amplifies sensations when one touches or caresses another, particularly during sex. It often contains hallucinogens — drugs that act on the mind and cause people to see or feel things that are not really there.

The senior police officer said that on October 29, the sleuths of the narcotics cell received a tip-off about a gang which supplies drug to rave parties. Based on the tip-off, Kamal Kalra, a DJ, was arrested from Rohini Sector 13.

During investigation, Kalra disclosed that he had procured the contraband from a supplier over the phone. Based on the call records, the supplier, identified as Mahesh Goyal, was arrested from Dwarka.

When both the accused were interrogated at length, they revealed that psychotropic substances like LSD, MMDA, MDA, ketamine, methamphetamine, and amphetamines are widely used in rave parties.

Goyal disclosed that his first encounter with Ecstasy was in Chennai, where he attended a party. There he got to know that these psychotropic drugs can be easily bought online. He also informed police that these illegal drugs can be purchased using Bitcoins. The police added that it is getting in touch with the ministry of information technology to put a stop on these transactions.

Mumbai, Jan 12: At least eight persons were killed and several others injured when a massive blast followed by a fire ripped a chemical factory at Boisar in Palghar district, nearly 100 km north of Mumbai, on Saturday, officials said.

Top Palghar district administration, police and fire brigade officials have rushed to the spot for the rescue operation, while Fire Brigade teams from Boisar MIDC industrial area and Tarapur Atomic Power Station are engaged in dousing the flames.

As per local witnesses, the intensity of the explosion was so severe that it was audible in a 35-km range and one building in the factory collapsed.

Besides, many homes in the immediate vicinity were shaken and people ran outside thinking it was an earthquake, as power lines also failed.

The exact cause of the explosion-cum-blaze which occurred around 7 p.m. is not immediately available.

Noida, Jul 28: A doctor admitted at a private hospital in Noida has been accused of sexually harassing a patient in his isolation ward, where both were undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the police said.

The 20-year-old woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the incident took place on Monday and based on that a case was filed at the local expressway police station, they said.

A senior police official said an investigation is underway and there might be lapses on part of the hospital which allegedly admitted a man and a woman in the same isolation ward, in violation of the norms.

The woman and the doctor had tested positive for coronavirus last week, according to officials.

"The woman was in the isolation ward of the private hospital. There was a man, a medical practitioner, who too was infected with coronavirus and was sharing the ward with her," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said.

He said the woman alleged molestation and upon being informed, the police immediately lodged a case and initiated a probe into the matter.

"There appears to be some irresponsibility on part of the hospital too. We are communication with the medical departments to check whether the patients were being kept in accordance with the guidelines," Mr Singh said.

He said the accused is still in isolation but the police will reach out for his statement following due protocols of COVID-19.

"All necessary action will be taken as per the truth that will emerge after a thorough investigation," Mr Singh said.

Jun 25: A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at her house in east Delhi and her family members secretly buried her body, which was later exhumed for post-mortem, police said on Wednesday.

The girl, whose family hails from Jharkhand, allegedly hanged herself in a room in her house on Monday, they said.

No suicide note was recovered from the spot, police said.

Her body was exhumed on Tuesday as per the directions of the Sub Divisional Magistrate of the area. The process was carried out as her family members secretly buried her without informing the police.

The post-mortem will be conducted after Covid-19 tests, police said.

The incident took place on Monday. The reason behind her taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, they said.

Police said the girl lived with her mother and two siblings. The family hails from Jharkhand and are financially extremely weak. Her father died two years ago, they said.

After the father’s death, the girl's mother along with her siblings took her body to a burial ground and buried her, police said.

The police said the matter came to their notice after a neighbour alerted them about it. Following the information the body was exhumed, they said.

On questioning the girl's mother, she told police that she didn't know that one has to inform police in a suicide case, a senior police officer said.

Inquest proceedings have been initiated, police said.
