New Delhi, Dec 22: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested James Christian Michel, the alleged middleman in Augusta Westland VVIP Chopper deal case.
The designated Special court allowed the probing agency to interrogate Michel inside the court room for 15 minutes after the agency sought his custodial interrogation.
The Central probe agency arrested Michel under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and sought 15 days judicial custody for interrogation. ED had moved a petition in Delhi’s Patiala House court seeking production warrant of Michel in Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper deal case.
The central probe agency had filed a chargesheet in 2016, alleging that Michel had received a kickback to the tune of 30 million Euros (around Rs 225 crore) from the Augusta Westland for deal involving the purchase of 12 VVIP helicopters.
James Christian Michel is among the three alleged middlemen being probed in this case by CBI and ED. The others are Guido Haschke and Carlo Gerosa.
Christian Michel was brought to India after he lost a case in Dubai’s court against his extradition to India on December 4 and produced before the court which allowed his custodial interrogation on December 5.
