Riyadh, Jun 5: The government of India has not suspended sending its workers to the Kingdom and the manpower supply system is very much intact.
A report published by a local media outlet, and subsequently carried by a section of international media, said that India had suspended sending workers to the Kingdom, citing a recent directive from the Saudi Ministry of Labor that stipulated that 25 percent of the total foreign manpower must be housemaids.
Reacting to it and having confirmed with New Delhi on Thursday, Indian Embassy spokesman Hifzur Rahman said: “The Indian government has not issued any statement that suspends sending workers to the Kingdom.”
He added: “Any such report is planted and misleading.”
Notably, the Kingdom hosts a 2.8-million-plus Indian community, the largest expatriate group in the country.
Indian expat workers in the Kingdom also constitute the largest number of Indian passport holders living anywhere in the world.
