Engineering student killed in accident

Bengaluru, Aug 22: An engineering student was killed while another sustained injuries when the motorcycle they were on rammed into the median of the expressway on Ballari Road and the two were hit by a cab on Sunday.

The police identified the deceased as Dharmesh Patel (21), a resident of J.P. Nagar. The pillion rider has been identified as Abhishek (21). They were returning from Nandi Hills when the accident occurred.

Dharmesh lost control on the vehicle on the expressway near Jakkur and hit the median. The two fell on to the other side of the median and got hit by a sedan going towards the airport.

Passersby took them to a hospital where Dharmesh succumbed to his injuries. Abhishek is out of danger.

According to Yelahanka traffic police, Dharmesh was not wearing a helmet.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: Popular Kannada comedy actor Prakash, popularly known as Bullet Prakash in the film industry, died due to multi-organ failure at a private hospital in the City on Monday.

He was 44.

He is survived by wife, one son and a daughter.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.

Bengaluru, Jul 18: Karnataka minister R Ashoka on Friday said that the COVID-19 lockdown will not be extended further in Bengaluru.

While commenting on the COVID-19 lockdown extension R Ashoka said, "We have taken expert opinion, and the lockdown will not be extended. It will end on July 22."

Earlier today, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor, M Goutham Kumar called for an extension of lockdown in the city for one more week due to rise in the COVID-19 cases. "It will be better if we get more time to tackle COVID-19 cases. We wish for the extension of lockdown for one more week. We have given the proposal to the government," said Kumar.

Lockdown had been imposed in the city for seven days with effect from 8 pm on July 14 till 5 am on July 22 to curb the further spread of COVID-19.

As many as 3,693 new COVID-19 positive cases and 115 deaths have been reported in Karnataka on Friday, the State Health Department said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 55,115 including 33,205 active cases. While there are 20,757 recoveries, the death toll stands at 1,147.
