New Delhi, Feb 22: The Election Commission has asked the government officials involved in the conduct of the ensuing 16th Lok Sabha polls to ensure neutrality and impartiality without any deviation.
It stressed on the need for inter-State coordination for ensuring free, fair and peaceful election process.
The Commission -- Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath and Election Commissioners H.S. Brahma and S.N.A. Zaidi -- which organised a meeting of Chief Secretaries, Director Generals of Police and the Chief Electoral Officers of the States and the Union Territories, expressed satisfaction over the poll preparedness across the country.
The officials were directed to carry out the vulnerability mapping exercise to identify vulnerable areas and segments of voters and take advance precautionary measures to ensure free and fair exercise of franchise by all the voters.
Senior Officials of the Union Ministries of Home, Railways and Communications participated in the meeting along with EC officials.
The Commission is likely to announce the poll schedule, spread over April and May in nearly five to seven phases, next week.
The present 15th Lok Sabha, which had its last sitting on Friday before being adjourned sine die by Speaker Meira Kumar, will have term till May 31.
