Sunny Leone has changed the profile of Bollywood heroines as we know it.

What’s more, the early promos of her first Bollywood film ‘Jism 2’ suggest she can act – and we don’t mean the adult stuff that made her a star in the first place.

No one is impervious to her charms, not even Osama bin Laden, if the rumours are to be believed.

With Miss Leone in Bollywood headlines like “intimacy”, “bikinis” and “daring scenes”, common fodder for Bollywood coverage in the past, seem passe.

Is there anyone out there who can keep up with Sunny?

It was a struggle to come up with true ‘desi’ contenders and not just because of the cultural divide.

Here's a lowdown on the top five Bollywood girls who we think can keep red-hot Sunny from taking over the 100-year-old Indian film industry.

Malaika Arora Khan

Bollywood's 'Badnaam Munni' aka Malaika Arora Khan has made a name for herself in the Indian film industry as a leading item girl.

Many item girls have come and faded away, but sexy Malaika still remains the number one item girl with her gyrating moves and sultry looks.

A mother of a growing boy, Malaika has even been termed as the 'best item girl' of Bollywood by none other than Salman Khan, who is also her brother-in-law.

Her sensuous moves in "U.P., Bihar lootne", "Chhaiya chhaiya", "Hoth raseele", "Kaal kaal", and "Mahi ve" are just of the hot numbers where she competes with herself. All her item numbers have been chartbusters till date.

Disclaimer: She is a true contender and needs no disclaimers.

Veena Malik

Pakistani starlet Veena Malik has been in the showbiz industry for more than a decade but she has grabbed the limelight by its collar only after making several controversial appearances and statements.

Veena has revealed, among other things, that she would pose nude for 'Playboy' for $1 million if she is offered to do so.

Earlier, she also engaged in a passionate debate with a mufti, who claimed she had engaged in immoral behaviour as a contestant on Bigg Boss.

Malik told him off by pointing out the double standards of Pakistani media against women among other rebuttals.

She has signed South remake of 'The Dirty Picture'. "I don't mind being titled as South's Vidya Balan," said Veena, who will also be seen in 'Supermodel' opposite Ashmit Patel.

Other projects in the pipeline are 'Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai', 'Zindagi 50-50' and 'Mumbai 125 km'.

Her reality show 'Swayamwar' is in trouble as the channel which was supposed to telecast the show got shut down.

A few months ago, controversy resulted in Pakistan over a nude image of Malik on the cover of FHM magazine India edition in which she had "ISI" written on her upper arm – the initials of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency.

Malik says she was topless but did not pose completely nude, and has sued the magazine over the images.

Disclaimer: Nobody seems to have first-hand knowledge of Veena's dancing… or acting skills. She is a contender simply because of her dare-to-bare personality.

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika Sherawat has found an alternate career in Bollywood as an item girl.

The sizzler from Haryana did a series of item songs in 2011 alone. She was very much in demand and shot for Shalu Ke Thumkey (Bin Bulaye Baraati); Jalebi Bai (Double Dhamaal); Kalasala (Oshti-Tamil).

In 2012, Mallika sizzled as 'Laila' in Tezz.

Disclaimer: Her sensuous moves are ok, but in order to seriously compete with Sunny Leone, she needs to raise her well, standards? If that makes sense… given that this is Sunny Leone we are talking about. However, she did look poised during her appearances in Cannes, thanks to her Jackie Chan connection.

Poonam Pandey

Poonam Pandey sprang to limelight as a Kingfisher Calendar girl for 2011.

She was the first Kingfisher Calendar girl to pose nude for a magazine, according to Wikipedia.

She had hogged the headlines when she vowed to strip if India lifts the cricket World Cup in 2011.

Although she did not keep her promise after India was declared world champions, she did pose nude moments after IPL 5 concluded.

Disclaimer: Although, there is no indication that Poonam has the flair to carry off an item number, the sheer number of followers she has on Twitter makes her a big draw… if not for a main role, at least for the curiosity factor she will bring in an item number

Katrina Kaif

The Bollywood actress from London always had the looks and the figure to become a hot item girl and she proved it in Salman Khan's Bodyguard. Clad in a skimpy dress, Katrina's belly dancing moves in 'Sheila Ki Jawaani' topped the charts for weeks. A year later, katrina went back to some more hip grooving with 'Chikni Chameli'. The desi number cemented Katrina's position as a true contender for item songs in Bollywood. No wonder both Bodyguard and Agneepath went on to join the elite Rs100-crore club.

Disclaimer: Katrina might have to divest some more clothes if she wants to compete with Sunny's oomph factor. Her silicone pout is definitely not enough.

Mumbai, Jun 16: Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee remembers Sushant Singh Rajput as a dance loving 'chhokra' from an engineering college who, having made it in Bollywood, was “enthused, sincere and totally focused” on his craft.

Banerjeee said the actor always had “a book or two” with him and took pride in the fact that he had an “inner intellectual life away from the shallower aspects of showbiz”.

Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment on Sunday at the age of 34, leaving his friends, colleagues and collaborators in a state of shock.

The Patna-born actor and the director worked together in 2015 film "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!" when Rajput was a relative newcomer in the industry. Banerjee says it was Rajput's vulnerability and willingness to do different that made him stand out for the role.

In an interview with news agency, the filmmaker looks back at Rajput's sincerity, his love for science and astronomy and how an outsider has to work harder than a "mediocre, unmotivated and entitled establishment elite" to succeed in Bollywood.

Excerpts:

You worked with Sushant when he was less than two-year-old in the film industry. What struck you the most in him to cast as Detective Byomkesh Bakshy?

Banerjee: His vulnerability and intensity and the ambition to do different things than the usual Bollywood stuff.

What were your memories of Sushant- the actor and the person?

Banerjee: As an actor he would tense himself up for the scene and then completely plunge in take after take. He would put a lot of value on preparation. He would be up the previous night of the shoot, reading the scene and making notes and land up on the sets all raring to go.

He would be on, ready and give his hundred per cent throughout the shoot of Byomkesh - no matter how hard or long the day. The unit did not really have to worry about him - considering he was the star. That's what I remember - a total pro, enthused, sincere and totally focused.

As a person, he seemed to me a happy dance loving 'chhokra' from an engineering college who had made it in showbiz and now was serious about acting. He was deeply nostalgic about his carefree student days in Delhi. We used to laugh a lot - I remember that quite clearly.

Sushant's friends say that he spoke more about books and his love for astronomy than films and their fate, which is rare for an actor in the industry. Do you also remember him that way?

Banerjee: Totally true. He was a science and astronomy nut. Always had a book or two with him - and was proud of the fact that he had an inner intellectual life away from the shallower aspects of showbiz. I recognized it as a reflex, protective action to prevent the Bollywood swamp sucking him in totally. And also an identity he wanted to protect and project.

Sushant's death has brought to the fore the struggles of outsiders and the alienation they often face from the nepotistic culture of the industry. Did you feel that Sushant was also fighting this battle despite being a successful actor?

Banerjee: We all fight it, day in and out - whether successful or failing. But the trick is to define that success and failure ourselves and not let the narrative constantly forced by the establishment to get to you. Those who know this weather the storm and ultimately survive and thrive.

The biggest unfairness in all this is that it takes double the talent, energy and hard work for an outsider to convince the audience and the industry that he or she is as safe a box office bet as a mediocre, unmotivated and entitled establishment elite.

The media colludes in this by wallowing in family, coterie and celebrity worship. This leads to deep anger and frustration. Those who can let this slide survive. Those who can't - those who hurt a little more or are vulnerable and impressionable - they are at risk.

Kochi, Jan 6: A trial court on Monday framed charges against Malayalam film actor Dileep and other accused in the case of alleged abduction and molestation of a south Indian actress in 2017.

The actor and nine other accused were present in the additional special sessions court in Ernakulamwhen the charges were framed against them.

All of them have denied the charges.

On Saturday, the Court had dismissed a plea filed by Dileep, seeking to exclude him from the list of accused.

The Court had admitted the prosecution argument that there is prima facie evidence against him in the crime and dismissed the plea of the actor, who is eighth accused in the case.

The court had also not allowed a plea by the actor to grant him 10 days time to file the appeal in a higher court in the light of the Supreme Court order in November 2019 that the trial should be completed in six months.

The court is hearing the case in-camera.

On December 19, Dileep, along with his lawyers and a technical expert, had examined the contents of the electronic records at the closed room of the court.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed that the actor be allowed to inspect the records to enable him to present an effective defence during the trial.

In February 2017, the actress was allegedly abducted and molested by the accused.

Seven people, including the key accused 'Pulsar' Suni were arrested in connection with the actress' abduction case.

There are 10 accused in the case.

The entire act had allegedly taken place in a moving vehicle, which was filmed by the accused to blackmail her.

Dileep was subsequently arrested and arrayed as an accused in connection with offences under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and IT Act.

The top court had directed that the trial in case be concluded expeditiously, preferably within six months from the date of the judgement.

A woman judge is hearing the case.

In February 2019, the High Court, while considering a plea seeking to transfer the case to a Sessions Court headed by a woman judge to conduct the trial, had ordered the CBI special court Judge-III Ernakulam Honey M Varghese to complete the trial expeditiously.
