New Delhi: If there was one person continuously guarding Rajesh Khanna's health during his last days, it was Dimple Kapadia. Though Dimple didn’t prefer to come into the limelight much, she remained the force behind Kaka.

Raj Kapoor discovered Dimple Kapadia at the age of 13 and signed her for ‘Bobby’. The film later went on to become a hit but Dimple (16) took a strange decision of marrying the then superstar Rajesh Khanna (31) before the release of ‘Bobby’. However, the stranger things were yet to come. Dimple left the film world to raise her children.

But as they say, the glamour world is the other name of ecstasy, the poster perfect family life of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia started to disintegrate towards the later years of 1970s. Many think that Kaka’s inability to handle the superstar status was the prime reason behind the marital woes.

Rajesh Khanna had become one star who wasn’t ready to compromise on anything lesser than a superhit while the Hindi film industry had started to shift its focus towards the new supernova of Bollywood in the form of Amitabh Bachchan.

Rajesh Khanna hadn’t stopped giving hits but the angry young man was moving fast towards the superstar tag. Someone had to bear for the fierce competition between two towering stars, so Rajesh Khanna’s family life began to suffer.

On the other hand, Dimple had given birth to two daughters till then; Twinkle breathed her first in 1973 while Rinke was born in 1977.

At one point of time, Dimple decided to return to films. Khanna’s hectic schedule kept him away for most of the time and ultimately the couple found it apt to separate in 1982. Dimple said in an interview given to India Today in 1985, “The life and happiness in our house came to an end the day I and Rajesh got married.”

Rajesh Khanna and Dimple continued to live separately but they didn’t bother to complete the divorce proceedings. Dimple returned to films and Rajesh Khanna’s acting career came to a halt, before he was fetched into politics.

Time washed away the bitterness between the couple and the two started to appear together in parties in the beginning of 1990s. Dimple also campaigned for Khanna during the elections in 1992.

Though the stardom was gone but Rajesh Khanna was itching for a comeback. He decided to produce ‘Jai Shiv Shankar’ (1992) with him and Dimple in the lead, unfortunately the film didn’t work.

But the lost love had returned to Rajesh Khanna’s life. Dimple remained Khanna’s closest ally till his last days.

Mumbai, Aug 2: Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron has come aboard as an executive producer on filmmaker Chaitanya Tamhane's movie The Disciple. The Marathi feature is set to represent India at the 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival. It will be screened in the Competition section of the prestigious film gala.

The movie, which is Tamhane's follow-up to his National Award-winning feature Court, has also been selected for 2020 Toronto International Film Festival's official line-up.

"I met Chaitanya through a mentorship program where I had the opportunity to watch his very superb debut film, Court  I was immediately impressed by his sense of cinema and fearless confidence to tell stories.

"He was part of most of Roma's process and I jumped to the opportunity to be part of the process of his second film The Disciple. I believe Chaitanya is one of the most important new voices of contemporary cinema," Cuaron said in a statement.

Tamhane said he is honoured to have Cuaron aboard the film.

"It’s a bit surreal and an incredible honour for me to have one of the most recognised and acclaimed filmmakers in the world be part of 'The Disciple'. In some ways, this validation from Alfonso Cuaron is even more," he added.

The Disciple, a 127-minute long feature, stars Aditya Modak, Arun Dravid, Sumitra Bhave, and Kiran Yadnyopavit. It has been produced by “Sir” actor Vivek Gomber through his Zoo Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.

The Disciple marks Tamhane’s return to Venice after he won the Best Film - Orizzonti and Lion of the Future award for Court in 2014.

Court, a poignant commentary on India's judicial system, also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 2015 and was India's official entry for the Best Foreign Film at the 2016 Oscars.

Endeavor Content will sell North American rights and New Europe Film Sales boards the film as an international sales agent.

Mumbai, Jul 28: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan says he was left in tears as his daughter-in-law, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and granddaughter Aaradhya Bachchan were discharged from hospital after testing negative for coronavirus.

Aishwarya and her eight-year-old daughter, who were shifted to the isolation ward of Nanavati Hospital on July 17, were discharged on Monday.

Amitabh, 77, and his actor-son Abhishek are still in hospital after they were admitted on July 11.

In a post on official blog, the Bollywood veteran said that he became emotional when Aaradhya told him that he would be "back home soon".

"They go home, the little one and Bahurani... and the tears flow out... the little one embraces and tells me not to cry... 'You’ll be home soon', she assures... I must believe her," he said.

On Monday, Abhishek had said that he and his father were still under the care of medical staff at the Nanavati Hospital's isolation ward.

"My father and I remain in hospital under the care of the medical staff. Thank you all for your continued prayers and good wishes. Indebted forever," the 44-year-old actor tweeted.

Both Amitabh and Abhishek have been sharing their health updates with fans on various social media platforms.

Last week, Amitabh had dismissed reports that he had finally tested negative for coronavirus, calling the piece of news "an incorrigible lie".

Mumbai's Covid-19 tally rose to 1,10,129 on Monday with addition of 1,033 new cases.

New Delhi, Jun 24: Actor Bhumi Pednekar supported migrant labourers traveling long distances amid the coronavirus pandemic, in a rather unique way- by donating footwear to them.

The gut-wrenching images of migrants walking barefoot on the roads made the 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' actor take the plunge to help them.

Pednekar joined hands with a footwear company and a volunteer-based non-government organisation - The Robin Hood Army - to help the underprivileged with footwear.

The actor helped over 1000 migrant labourers in and around Ghaziabad in Murad Nagar, Govindpuram, Vijay Nagar, and distributed footwear among men and women across age-groups.
