Prabhu Deva’s ‘ABCD’ To Recreate ‘Muqabla’ Magic

January 9, 2013

MukalaMumbai, Jan 9: If recent reports are to be believed, we may just see Bollywood’s legendary choreographer, recently-turned director and actor Prabhu Deva burn up the dance floor once again, and reprise his role as India’s Michael Jackson, with a ‘Muqabla’ remix in ‘Any Body Can Dance’ (ABCD).

Flashback: In 1994, Prabhu Deva performed an impeccable, unbelievably foot-tapping, mind-boggling dance in the film ‘Humse Hai Muqabla’. That dance heralded Prabhu Deva as India’s answer to dancing legend Michael Jackson. And now, nearly 20 years later, Prabhu Deva is all set to reinvent his famous dance song in his upcoming 3-D dance film ‘Any Body Can Dance’. The film’s makers have bought the official rights to remake the song, and are all set to enthrall fans once again with Prabhu Deva’s awe-inspiring, imitable ‘invisible’ dance, where only his feet and hat grooved to the beats.

We caught up with Prabhu Deva the actor and his choreographer-director friend Remo D’Souza at a promotional event for ‘Any Body Can Dance’ in Matunga, Mumbai recently. The duo was present with the dancing stars of the film, and spoke about the need for a dedicated dance film in India, along the lines of ‘Step Up’ and ‘Honey’. Dressed in all black, the cast of ‘Any Body Can Dance’ looked like they meant business, and even showed off some killer dance moves at the promotional event.

How could we let the man of the moment, Remo D’Souza go without hearing his thoughts on the inclusion of ‘Muqabla’ in ‘Any Body Can Dance’? Remo looked extremely excited and pleased when he said, “It is an iconic song and Prabhu Deva’s dance made it what it became – a rage. We have got the rights and are using it for the promotions of ABCD. It will be the first song to come out. Watch out for it.”

ABCD and ABCD 2 both were great movies. Also the acting of Prabhu Deva in ABCD2 was great. Prabhu Deva and Remo Dsouza both are the stalwarts of Indian cinema and television. They both have won National awards for their choreographies. Prabhu Deva has won an award in 2004 for choreographing the song “Main Aisa Kyun Hoon” in the Hindi Movie “Lakshya”.

"While growing up, I was really interested in history, the tales of grand kingdoms and larger than life historical heroes. I had always been fascinated with the story of Prithviraj and Sanyogita and life came to a full circle for me when I was offered this film," Manushi said.

Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Prithviraj is based on the life and heroism of the king Prithviraj Chauhan. It stars Akshay in the title role while Manushi plays Sanyogita, the love of his life.

For Manushi, being offered Prithviraj by Aditya Chopra was a sweet coincidence. She reveals, 'While growing up, I was really interested in history, the tales of grand kingdoms and larger than life historical heroes.'

The glamourous girl, who has been voted the most desirable woman in the recent past, reveals that she is 'blessed' to be playing the role of the gorgeous Rajput princess.

Manushi’s Bollywood debut is being directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi who directed the biggest television epic 'Chanakya', based on the life and times of the most influential political strategist of India, and the multiple award-winning Pinjar.

Washington, May 18: Joining hands with the European Commission, actor Leonardo DiCaprio launched the Virunga Fund with seed money of USD 2 million to support Africa's Virunga National Park.

Since Virunga has lost a significant amount of revenue due to COVID shutdown post-March, the fund will be used to support the national park and the communities around, reported Variety.

The fund is aimed at disease prevention efforts, protection of mountain gorilla, and other species.

"I had the great honor of meeting and supporting Virunga's courageous team in their fight against illegal oil drilling in 2013," Variety quoted DiCaprio as saying.

"Virunga urgently needs funds to protect the endangered mountain gorilla population, to provide support to the rangers and the families of rangers who have fallen in the line of duty, and to help deliver essential disease prevention efforts. It's critical that we rally together during this time of incredible crisis," he added.

The 'Titanic' actor had earlier produced a Netflix documentary film 'Virunga' which is based on the national park.

Mumbai, Jan 9: Actor Juhi Chawla on Wednesday said instead of constantly criticising the government, one should reflect on own conduct and talk about uniting rather than dividing.

The actor attended an event which aimed to counter "Free Kashmir (narrative), anti-India slogans, false propaganda and clear the misconception."

Juhi said as artistes, it's unfair to be questioned about incidents "just for a reaction" when they should be given time to truly understand the situation.

"We are going to work, thinking how to execute our task, then some incident happens somewhere and suddenly the media asks, 'what do you think about this?' We haven't understood the matter, people haven't understood the matter but you need a reaction.

"Let people understand, whether it's NRC or CAA, and what's is it about, why is this being talked about," Juhi told reporters.

The actor said it is sad that people talk about division more than unity.

"Everyone is quick to talk about dividing. Why don't we talk about uniting? Why does everyone say 'what is the government doing, why is it doing this?' but I say if you point one finger there then three fingers are at you.
