Akshay Kumar plays don at India-Pak match

June 16, 2013

Akshay_KumarIn a case of life imitating art, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar reprised his on-screen role as a cricket-loving don at the India-Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy match in Birmingham yesterday.

Kumar took time out of his holiday in New York to fly into Britain for the much-anticipated cricket clash at Edgbaston Cricket Ground as a promotional stunt for his forthcoming film " Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobara", in which his character Shoaib plays a cricket-loving gangster who also wields excessive fixing powers on the game.

"As a company known for pushing the envelope on marketing, we will have our Shoaib attending the India-Pakistan match at Edgbaston. Cricket is a perfect fit with his character in the film, as evidenced in the film's first trailer as well," said Tanuj Garg, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures, the company behind the film set for an August 15 release worldwide.

Kumar's character in the reel version also cheers on a key India-Pakistan match, echoing underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's alleged match-fixing nexus in the Indian sub-continent.

The latest instalment of the entertainer, which follows the success of "Once Upon A Time in Mumbai" back in 2010, is set in the 1980s and also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Imran Khan and Sonali Bendre.

The gangster drama, directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, was supposed to hit the screens to coincide with Eid on August 8. However, it will now get an Independence Day release to avoid a clash with Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express".

Mumbai, Apr 24: A complaint has been filed with police against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut for allegedly referring to members of a particular community as a terrorist in a video released in support of her sister Rangoli Chandel, an official said on Friday.

The complaint was filed by a lawyer, Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh, at the suburban Amboli Police Station on Wednesday.

The Twitter account of Chandel, who is also the 33- year-old actor's manager, recently got suspended for alleged hate speech.

According to the complaint, while supporting her sister, Ranaut, in the video, allegedly referred to members of a particular community as "terrorist", the official said.

Ranaut had released the video some time back.

Following the release of the video, Deshmukh submitted an application to the Amboli police seeking registration of a case against the actor, the official said.

New Delhi, Feb 25: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday gave time to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to seek instructions on travel ban imposed on comedian Kunal Kamra.

Kamra approached the court against IndiGo which suspended him from flying with the airlines for a period of six months. Other airlines had also followed the suit in pursuance to this.

Justice Naveen Chawla said that the regulatory body should not have certified actions of airlines other than IndiGo to ban Kamra without conducting inquiry. The matter will now be heard on February 27.

Last month, IndiGo had barred the stand-up comedian for six months from using its services for allegedly portraying "unacceptable behaviour" onboard its flight.

The airline claimed that Kamra, while travelling on a Mumbai-Lucknow IndiGo flight, provoked a TV news anchor by asking questions over his news presentation style.
