July 7, 2013

IIFA_AwardMacau, Jul 7: Vidya Balan took home the Best Actress award at IIFA 2013 for her portrayal of a pregnant woman in search of her husband in 'Kahaani' while Ranbir Kapoor was named Best Actor for 'Barfi!' here on Saturday.

While receiving her award from Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya made a special mention of her director Shoojit Sircar.

"I want to dedicate this award to my director Shoojit.

This award belongs to him. No one has ever loved anyone else's wife as Shoojit loved Vidya Bagchi (name of her character) in the film. I am never short of awards and won my first award at IIFA Amsterdam after I played Abhishek's wife in 'Paa'," she said.

Ranbir, who played a deaf-mute boy in 'Barfi!', was not present at the ceremony and the gong was accepted on his behalf by the film's director Anurag Basu.

These trophies are the Ranbir and Vidya's second best actor awards after they bagged the same honours for 'Rockstar' and 'The Dirty Picture' respectively.

Basu's romantic-comedy 'Barfi!', which won many awards throughout the year, bagged the best film, director, story and music awards at the 14th edition of the Bollywood extravaganza leaving behind 'Agneepath', 'Vicky Donor' and 'Gangs of Wasseypur'.

Former couple Ranbir and Deepika Padukone won best Jodi award.

Deepika, on accepting the award, said, "I love Ranbir and (am) missing him."

'Vicky Donor' stars Yami Gautam and Ayushmann Khurrana won the best debut awards in the female and male categories, respectively.

'English Vinglish' helmer Gauri Shinde bagged the best debut director award.

"It feels like I am living in a dream. This is going to be my last debut award. In future, if I don't get any award I will be happy in every situation," Ayushmann said.

The glitzy ceremony kicked off with a dance by Bachchan while other celebrities like Sridevi, Prabhudeva, Sushant Singh Rajput, Madhuri Dixit and Deepika Padukone, too, gave scintillating performances.

The police have arrested the accused following a complaint by the filmmaker.

According to a senior police officer, the argument over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) began following a social media post by the filmmaker.

The accused allegedly went to the house of the filmmaker on Monday night and picked up an argument, which led to a scuffle.

"During the scuffle, the accused attacked the filmmaker with a knife," the senior police officer said, adding that the accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
