Chandigarh, Jul 11: Few would deny the role of Nirmal Milkha Singh in helping her husband and famed athlete Milkha Singh establish himself as a sports administrator, once he hung up his boots.

As the much-awaited biopic " Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" on "The Flying Sikh" gets a special screening in the Western Army Command at Chandimandir, on Thursday, Nirmal is likely to be there to cheer her life partner from a wheelchair despite being laid up with an injured leg for six months.

Former captain of the Indian women's volleyball team, who represented the national squad from late 1950s till early 1960s, Nirmal fracture her leg after slipping.

Milkha said, "My wife has not been keeping well for the six-seven months as her leg got broken. We took her to Max Super Specialty Hospital at Saket in New Delhi for treatment. She has been operated twice and she is yet to recover fully. However, she earnestly wishes to be at the movie's special screening on Thursday so we intend to take her to the theatre in a wheelchair."

The legendary athlete, known for his exploits in the 400-metre event during the 1960 Rome Olympics where he missed the bronze medal by a whisker, said Nirmal has been treated by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr S K S Marya.

"The doctors have advised her bed rest for complete rehabilitation so that she can resume her normal routine. Therefore we are not taking any chances as she has been bedridden for a while," said Milkha, a day ahead of the special screening.

The movie "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, traces the rise of Milkha from obscurity and hunger to being the finest athlete that India has ever produced. En route to reaching the finals of the 400m event in Rome Olympics where he finished fourth, Milkha clocked a time 45.6 seconds, which lasted as a national record for nearly four decades.

He was also the first Indian to win a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games when he pocketed the yellow metal in the 400m race at Cardiff (Wales) in 1958. For the record, Milkha won 77 out of 80 races in the 400m event in his sporting career.

The 74-year-old musician shared the information through a video message posted on his official Facebook page.

In the video, the singer detailed about having a little "discomfort" for two days, stating he had chest congestion along with cold and on-off fever, which led him to get tested for the virus.

However, he also mentioned that he could have stayed at home in self-quarantine, as advised, but did not want to put his family in danger, and hence got admitted by his own choice, to recover quickly.

"I am in good hand, I am in good health. Nobody has to worry about this. The fever has subsided, and in two days I'll be discharged and I'll be home. Thanks for the concern," he said in the video message.

Patna, Jan 22: Actor Kangana Ranaut has expressedher desire to make a movie on Chandragupta, the shepherd-turned-emperor who founded the Maurya dynasty, noting that the film industry has “not done enough justice to our history”.

The national award winner was here to take part in a programme organised by the publishers of a leading Hindi daily where she performed a jig to the tunes of Bhojpuri songs along with actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan before the duo participated in a question and answer session.  Replying to the questions posed by Kishan, who is also the BJP MP from Gorakhpur, Ranaut on Tuesday said it was her second trip to Bihar.

“The last time, I was here as a child though I have not yet got a chance to explore the state with which I feel a connect as my Yoga teacher has his roots here,” she said.

Ranaut, who won acclaim for portraying Rani Laxmibai, the valiant queen of Jhansi who took on the British during the revolt of 1857 -- in ‘Manikarnika’, when asked if she would like to be associated with a film on any historical figure from Bihar, said, “It would be Chandragupta Maurya. The film industry has not done much justice to our history”.

A self-confessed admirer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the 32-year-old, who has won three National Awards in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories, replied in the affirmative when asked about reports that she has turned producer and her first venture is based on the theme of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The Himachal Pradesh-born actress, who has courted controversy for taking on well-entrenched Bollywood “insiders” like Karan Johar and Hrithik Roshan, said she has had a rebellious streak since childhood and shared an anecdote about her breaking her teacher’s stick upon being hit for chatting with a classmate in school.

When Kishan asked why she has gained so much weight, Ranaut replied it was in preparation for her upcoming biopic “Thalaivi”, based on late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The actress said her forthcoming release “Panga” is a family drama.

Ranaut said after landing in Patna, she gorged on ‘Litti Chokha’, a local delicacy.

She also regaled the audience by greeting them in Bhojpuri and repeating several commonly used phrases of the dialect after Kishan.
