Maker of 'Malgudi Days' is dead

Malgudi_DaysBangalore, Jul 28: The maker of 'Malgudi Days' is no more. TS Narasimhan, film and TV serial producer, passed away at his residence in Tata Silk Farm here on Friday night. He was 86 and is survived by two sons and a daughter.

According to Badarinath, Narasimhan's son, the producer had been ailing for sometime. "He had undergone a surgery about 8 years ago and didn't recover from that. He had a cup of soup last night (Friday) and died at 9pm,'' said Narasimhan.

Narasimhan became popular for producing 'Malgudi Days', a Hindi serial for Doordarshan in 1986 based on the works of RK Narayan. The 39-episode serial was directed by Shankar Nag with Anant Nag, Master Manjunath and others in the role. The sketches for the serial was done by RK Laxman. It was shot in Agumbe near Shimoga.

Kavitha Lankesh, who directed 19 telefilms based on Narayan's short stories, said Narasimhan reminded her of her father P Lankesh. "Narasimhan was very strict, loving and disciplined. He was always punctual. He never delayed any payment," she said.

Narasimhan also produced a few Kannada movies. His first movie was 'Kesarina Kamala' (1973) with Minuguthare Kalpana in the lead role. He also made Bangarada Jinke, Banker Margayya (based on RK Narayan's work Financial Expert and directed by TS Nagabharana) and Dange Yedda Makkalu.

Nagabharana, who directed serials - Tenali Rama and Stone Boy (Indo-Mauritius co-production) for Narasimhan, said: "He was very disciplined. He took agreement from artistes and others while producing movies and serials. Perhaps, he was the one who introduced agreement in the field.''

Mumbai, Aug 9:The questioning of Rhea Chakraborty's brother Showik by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, continued till around 6:30 am on Sunday, according to sources in the ED.

It is noteworthy that Showik Chakraborty had reached the ED office at around 12 pm on Saturday afternoon, following which the questioning by the investigative agency's officials went on for about 18 hours.

Tomorrow on August 10, Rhea, alongwith her father, Indrajit Chakraborty, are to be questioned by the ED officials.

Showik is named in the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Rhea was earlier questioned by the ED at its office in Mumbai in connection with the case. The agency also questioned Showik and Shruti Modi, former business manager of Rajput.

According to sources in the investigation agency, the officials have got hold of electronic evidence in connection with the case and they are also searching for phone records of conversations between Rhea and her father and brother.

The ED had already questioned Rhea once on Saturday, following which she was called back on Monday.

Meanwhile, CBI has collected documents related to the actor's death from Bihar Police. The ED has also asked the late actor's friend, Siddharth Pithani, to appear before the agency on August 8.

The agency had on July 31 registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in the case after FIR was filed by KK Singh, the late actor's father, against Rhea in Bihar on July 28.
The ED earlier interrogated Samuel Miranda, an associate of Rhea over the latter's properties, sources said.

The investigating agency has registered a case against six accused including Rhea in connection with Rajput's death.

Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14.

Kolhapur, Feb 21: Voicing against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), renowned lyrics and thinker Javed Akhtar has said that the act was an assault to secularism and integrity of India and with the ongoing protests, the nation had reached a threshold for an another struggle.

Speaking here on Thursday night at an event organised on the 5th death anniversary of CPI senior leader and progressive leader Com Govind Pansare, Mr Akhtar said the newly amended citizenship act was a plot to split the country.

Mr Javed said that communalism has a deep root in India and it spread after the formation of Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League in British India. "Muslim league got Pakistan but Hindu Mahasabha is still unsatisfied," he alleged and added that BJP was now 'working as a branch of RSS' and trying to 'split the country' through NRC.

Mumbai, Jul 17: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan who is currently getting treated for coronavirus in Mumbai's Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital on Friday expressed gratitude towards his fans for their prayers for his well being.

Bachchan took to Twitter to thank his fans and also said that he is receiving messages from his concerned fans on all of his social media platforms.

"I receive all your blessings and love and prayers for our well being .. on SMS, on WhatsApp, on insta on Blog .. and all possible social media," he tweeted.

"My gratitude has no bounds .. Hospital protocol is restrictive, I cannot say more .. Love," his tweet further read.

Fans of the superstar have been organising special prayers in different parts of the country for his speedy recovery.

Besides Big B, his son, actor Amitabh Bachchan, daughter-in-law, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and granddaughter Aaradhya Bachchan also tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.
His actor wife, however, actor Jaya Bachchan, tested negative for the virus.
