I am not getting engaged, says Ranbir Kapoor

September 6, 2013

Ranbir_KapoorMumbai, Sep 6: Actor Ranbir Kapoor has denied reports of engagement with rumoured girlfriend Katrina Kaif. There were reports in a section of media that Ranbir would make a formal proposal on his birthday (September 28).

"There was a report that I am getting engaged on my birthday and there is no truth in it... I am not getting engaged or married," Ranbir told reporters here last night at the promotional event of his upcoming film 'Besharam'. Ranbir feels scrutiny of his personal life is a part and parcel of showbiz but he would try to protect his personal space.

"When I was new in the industry I spoke openly about my relationship. I feel when you do this the spotlight is more on personal life than work. I want to protect my life. I don't want my life to become a reality show," he said. However, Ranbir refused to clarify his relationship with Katrina. "I am single till I get married, I think I believe in that saying. I am going very strong with this movie ('Besharam'), I am very excited about it. That is the only excitement I have in my life right now," he said.

"I am very happy with the work I am doing. I am happy in my personal life with family, friends, everything. I am not bothered with all this. I am not here to make or break an image. I am arrogant enough to know that I am a good actor and people will like me for my work," Ranbir said.

Ranbir feels his image is made by the kind of movies he does and what is written about him. "This Casanova image is there since quite some time... so when I get married in five or ten years, the next actor after me who is single he will probably get that (tag). I am not trying to make an image, I am an actor trying to sell movies," he said.

Reacting to the recent photos published of him and Katrina holidaying in Ibiza, Ranbir said, he doesn't have an issue with it, but he wants to protect his personal life. When asked about reports of his father Rishi Kapoor being miffed with him and Katrina over their photographs, Ranbir said, "There is no truth in this. I tell everything to my parents, I don't hide anything. They are very supportive. I live with my parents. When I have to take suggestions from them they are always there for me."

Ranbir is excited to share screen space with his parents in his upcoming film 'Besharam'. "They are cops in the film and I am a robber. I am happy to work with them. I was like their parent on the sets, taking care of them. I was initially worried how will I act in front of them, I felt if I give a bad shot they will feel I am a bad actor. They are professional actors. I learnt a lot from them and we had fun while shooting," he said.

He said the surprise package of the film is his mother Neetu Kapoor, who plays a police officer - Bulbul Chautala. "The way she has created the character, she was endearing and at the same time vampish but still your heart goes out to her," he said. Though Ranbir won acclaim for his performances in films like 'Wake Up Sid', 'Rockstar', 'Barfi', but Rishi Kapoor likes him in 'Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani' and 'Rajneeti'.

"He (Rishi Kapoor) comes from certain school of thoughts and wants me to do those kind of films. I want to challenge myself as an actor and play different characters. I am whatever today because of the kind of roles I have played till now. It (character in 'Besharam') is over the top character.

To play vulgar character on screen is difficult," Ranbir said. 'Besharam', directed by Abhinav Kashyap also stars Pallavi Sharda and releases on October 2.

Mumbai, Jul 27: Reel life villain Sonu Sood turned real life hero once again, this time by gifting a tractor on Sunday to a farmer in a remote village in Andhra Pradesh to help him till the land. The actor came up with the gift after coming through a video clip on Twitter wherein a tomato farmer in Madanapalle in Chittoor district was seen ploughing the land with his two daughters carrying the yoke on their shoulders.

In his instant reaction, Sood promised a pair of ox to the farmer, but later said the family deserved a tractor. "So sending you one. By evening a tractor will be ploughing your fields. Stay blessed," Sood, who acted as a villain in numerous Telugu films, said in a tweet.

True to his word, a new tractor was delivered to the elated farmer Nageswara Rao at his Mahalrajupalle village by Sunday night. Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who belongs to Chittoor district, hailed the actor's gesture.

"Spoke with @sonusood ji and applauded him for his inspiring effort to send a tractor to Nageswara Rao's family in Chittoor district. Moved by the plight of the family, I have decided to take care of the education of the two daughters and help them pursue their dreams," Naidu said in a tweet.

Rao's elder daughter completed her Intermediate while the second one passed Class 10. Rao used to run a tea stall in Madanapalle before coronavirus left him out of business. He returned to his native Mahalrajupalle village to take up agriculture once again.

Given his penury, he could not hire either a pair of bulls or a tractor to till the land, when his daughters volunteered to help him on the chores. Their plight went viral on social media following which the actor stepped in with help.

Mumbai, Apr 30: Rishi Kapoor, the romantic star of many a Bollywood film who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018, died in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday, his brother Randhir Kapoor said. He was 67.

Rishi, a third generation actor of the famous Kapoor dynasty, is survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, actor son Ranbir and daughter Ridhima.

"He is no more. He has passed away," Randhir said.

Rishi was taken to the H N Reliance hospital by his family on Wednesday.

His death comes a day after after his "D-Day" co-star Irrfan Khan passed away, also of cancer. Three months ago, the disease claimed his sister Ritu Nanda.

"Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last.

He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him, the family said in a statement.

Rishi returned to India last September after undergoing treatment for his cancer in the US for almost a year.

In February, he was hospitalised twice.

He was first admitted to a hospital in Delhi where he was attending a family function. At the time, he had said he was suffering from an "infection".

After his return to Mumbai, he was again admitted to a hospital with viral fever. He was discharged soon after.

Rishi made his first screen appearance as a child artiste in his father Raj Kapoor's film Shri 420 , where he appeared in the song Pyaar hua ekraar hua . This was followed by "Mera Naam Joker". But it was in 1973, with the blockbuster Bobby , again directed by his father, that he made his debut as a romantic hero. He continued to be a favourite romantic hero for almost three decades.

His notable films as a romantic hero are "Laila Majnu", "Rafoo Chakkar", "Karz", "Chandni", "Heena" and "Saagar".

He was, however, more proud of his second innings as an actor, which he found more satisfying. His notable films as a character artiste are "Do Dooni Chaar" with wife Neetu, "Agnipath" and "Kapoor & Sons".

Mumbai, Jul 31: Maharashtra Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said that the Enforcement Directorate should carry out an investigation in actor Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide case.

"There is a huge public sentiment about handing over #SushantSinghRajput case to CBI but looking at the reluctance of State Government, atleast @dir_ed ED can register an ECIR since misappropriation and money laundering angle has come out," tweeted Fadnavis.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that no FIR had been registered in Maharashtra yet and that the case must be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

"There is a confrontation between two states and there has been no FIR registered yet in Maharashtra. Chirag (Paswan) had spoken to CM Thackeray that there should be CBI probe. All political leaders are demanding for it. It should be handed over to CBI," Paswan said.

A team of the Bihar Police that arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday, recorded statements of two persons, including actor Sushant Singh Rajput's sister, on Wednesday in connection with the case.

An FIR was filed by Sushant Singh Rajput's father against actor Rhea Chakraborty in Bihar on Tuesday.
