Blessed to have a partner like Sahil: Dia Mirza

October 4, 2013

Sahil_Dia_MirzaNew Delhi, Oct 4: Dia Mirza's absence from the silver screen is often misconstrued as being out of work but the actress-turned-producer insists this is not the case as she is busy on the production front.

The 31-year-old actress, whose last acting sting was in her own 2011 debut production venture "Love Breakups Zindagi", says she has stopped explaining to people who ask, 'Where have you disappeared?'.

"This industry is quick to judge, condone, celebrate... So there is a lot of pressure but I am blessed to have a partner like Sahil (Sangha) who is so patient. He has a lot of clarity in what he wants to do. I have now stopped bothering about the negativity around.

Often people come up to me and ask 'What are you doing?', 'Where have you disappeared?' and I would tell them I am working!.

"But now I have stopped explaining myself. I don't need to justify myself. Sahil has taught me not to cave into anybody's demand and stand by your conviction," Dia told PTI.The actress says her and beau Sahil's latest production project "Bobby Jasoos", starring Vidya Balan, is an answer to people who thought she was not working.

Balan will be playing a lady detective in the movie which is inspired by a real story. The shooting is likely to start from mid-November this year.

"Two years ago there was this line that Sanyukta (writer) had read in a magazine about a girl who wanted to grow up and become a detective. We had asked her to develop something and left it there. I came back to it this year and asked her what's happening with the script and she said it is actually her husband's story and he still hasn't initiated anything.

"Then we met Samar (director) and asked why isn't he doing anything about it. Finally after one and half year of writing we were ready with the script," she added.

Sahil says he wants their production venture 'Born Born Free Entertainment' to be a credible brand which is why they are not rushing into picking up any project.

"We at Born Free want to give chance to new talent, whether it is directors or actors. We didn't want to invest in just any project and knew that our second film had to be strong.

You will see Vidya in a radically different space. We are clear about one thing that our content has to be strong.

"We are a new company and know that whatever we put out there has to be credible. And coming up with a good story takes time."

Kochi, Jun 27: The Kerala government on Friday submitted an application in a local court requesting to stop the prosecution of ivory possession case against Malayalam film actor Mohanlal.

In the application for withdrawal of prosecution, the government has requested the court to stop the prosecution "immediately for the interest of justice".

''The legality of the possession of two elephant tusks by Mohanlal was accepted by the competent authority under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 by issuing him a certificate of ownership. The possession and custody of the elephant tusks thus become legal after the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW) issued him the certificate," the state government said.

"Further conduct of the criminal trial may go against the good faith amongst the parties as far as the certificate of ownership issued to Mohanlal is concerned. One cannot go back from that ownership certificate and it was stopped from contradicting, deny or declare to be false the previous statement made by the actor in the court," it added.

"The government should not be allowed to revert from its promises in order to keep the faith of the people and in the interest of good governance," the government further said.

The case was registered by the forest department in 2012. The state government submitted the application in Kuruppampady Judicial Magistrate Court, which will hear the matter on July 24.

Los Angeles, Mar 6: Filmmaker-writer Taika Waititi is set to direct two animated series based on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for Netflix.

Waititi, who won an Academy Award in February for his adapted screenplay, "Jojo Rabbit", will also serve as the writer and producer on the animated series.

According to Deadline, the first series will be based on the world of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", while the second will be an original take on the Oompa-Loompa characters from the book.

The Oompa-Loompas are little humans who were preyed upon in Loompaland before Wonka invited them to work at his chocolate factory. They are paid in cocoa beans and love practical jokes and singing songs.

Netflix said the animation series would "retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time."

The series will follow in the footsteps of Gene Wilder's 1971 portrayal of Willy Wonka and Johnny Depp's 2005 interpretation.

Mumbai, Mar 7: A 'farm-to-fork' themed restaurant 'He-Man' situated on National Highway in Haryana's Karnal -- franchised by veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra -- has been sealed for building law violations, officials said on Saturday.

The Karnal Municipal Corporation sealed the franchise outlet on Friday for not furnishing the change of land use (CLU) certificate and illegal constructions, an official said.

The restaurant is located on National Highway 44 on the outskirts of Karnal, some 150 km from here.

The franchise was given to Delhi-based businessman Pramod Kumar.

"After the success of my restaurant Garam Dharam Dhaba, I am now announcing a farm-to- fork themed restaurant 'He-Man'," Dharmendra had announced on Instagram after its launch on Valentine's Day.

Karnal Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said the action was initiated as the restaurant owner did not respond to MC notice on the issue.
