India's 'The Good Road' among 76 films vying for Oscar

India_OscarLos Angeles, Oct 9: India's 'The Good Road', a Gujarati film by first-time director Gyan Correa, is among the 76 movies that will compete in the foreign language category at the 86th Academy Awards.

'The Good Road', a lost and found story of a boy in the desert of Kutch, created some uproar in India after it was chosen over more popular and festivals winner 'The Lunchbox'.

Other notable entries this year include 'The Past', Iranian entry by Oscar-winner Asgar Farhadi, starring 'The Artist' star Berenice Bejo. Farhadi earlier won the best foreign Oscar for his divorce drama 'A Separation'.

Thomas Vinterberg's critically acclaimed 'The Hunt', about a man wrongly accused by a child of molestation, is vying for an Oscar from Denmark with another Cannes favourite --Paolo Sorrentini's 'The Great Beauty' from Italy.

Pakistan's entry is Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi's 'Zinda Bhaag' that also stars Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah. Nepal has entered Subarna Thapa's 'Soongava: Dance of the Orchids'.

This year, the category has first-time countries in Moldova and Saudi Arabia. Haifaa Al Mansour 'Wadjda', about a young girl's desire to own a bicycle, is Saudi Arabia's entry. Afghanistan has entered 'Wajma – An Afghan Love Story' by director Barmak Akram.

Argentina has submitted 'The German Doctor' by helmer Lucia Puenzo while Austria, which won the foreign film Oscar last year for Michael Haneke's 'Amour' has entered Julian Polsler's 'The Wall' this year. France's official entry this year is 'Renoir' directed by Gilles Bourdos.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's beautiful film 'Television', is Bangladesh's entry.

Danis Tanovic, whose 'No Man's Land' won the 2002 Oscar, is in the race again with 'An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker' from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Tanovic is directing Emraan Hashmi in his next and co-produced 'The Lunchbox'.

Egypt's entry is director Ibrahim El Batout's 'Winter of Discontent', which deals with events that led up to the Tahrir Square uprising.

Celebrated helmer Wong Kar-wai's 'The Grandmaster', about the life of martial-arts master Ip Man, is Hong Kong's entry to the Oscars while China has entered Feng Xiaogang's patriotic drama 'Back to 1942'.

Japan has overlooked favoured 'Like Father, Like Son' for 'The Great Passage' as its entry.

The 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 16, 2014 while the award ceremony will take place on March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.

Mumbai, Jun 30: Actor Vivek Oberoi on Tuesday announced that he is set to make his debut as a producer with a high-concept thriller titled "Iti- Can You Solve Your Own Murder”.

The whodunit thriller will be directed by Vishal Mishra, who has previously helmed on films "Coffee With D” (2017) and "Hotel Milan” (2018).

"Iti" will be produced by the actor's banner Oberoi Mega Entertainment, Mandiraa Entertainment and Girish Johar. It is creatively backed by Prernaa Arora.

The 43-year-old actor said he trusts Vishal’s vision and liked the idea so much that he decided to back the project.

"I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey with Prernaa, team Mandiraa and Girish. We hope to present an engaging piece of cinema to the audiences with this," Vivek said in a statement.

The film revolves around a woman who is racing against time to solve her own murder. The project is expected to go on floors by October and release in the first quarter of 2021.

“I’m super excited and keen to share this story with our audiences. Vishal is a very gifted talent and we are pretty sure that with this film, we have a winner on our hands," Johar said.

Vivek's last Bollywood big-screen appearance was in 2019’s "PM Narendra Modi". He was also seen in season two of Amazon Prime Video's thriller "Inside Edge".

New Delhi, Mar 19: Days after being diagnosed with COVID-19, 'Oblivion' actor Olga Kurylenko said that she is better as her fever has now gone.

The 40-year-old actor took to Instagram to share the health update with a picture of herself wearing a face mask.

"Hello everyone! I'm feeling better today. My fever is gone! I hear people can't figure out where I currently am. I'm in London!," she wrote in the caption.

The 'Quantum of Solace' actor also shared details about coronavirus with her Instafam.

"How do I know it's coronavirus and not just a flu? I did a test for coronavirus which came back positive. What are the medicines that doctors prescribed as treatment? NONE!" she wrote.

"I was told to take paracetamol in case my fever was too high and if I was in too much pain. However, I do take vitamins and supplements. Please note that these vitamins do NOT cure coronavirus but only help the immune system be stronger in order to fight!" Kurylenko added.

She also shared a detailed list of medicines that she is taking to deal with the condition.

The 'Oblivion' actor joined the growing list of entertainment figures who have contracted the highly contagious virus on Monday.

Other Hollywood personalities who were earlier diagnosed with COVID-19 are superstar couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. The celebrity couple has been discharged from the hospital and are under quarantine at their home.

Other celebrities that are currently battling with the coronavirus are music producer Andrew Watt, 'Game of Thrones' actor Kristofer Hivju, and actor Idris Elba.

New Delhi, Mar 25: Actor Priyanka Chopra on Tuesday night through an Instagram Live conversation put forward questions about coronavirus to World Health Organisation (WHO) experts and busted some myths about the global pandemic.

WHO General-Director Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, the WHO's Technical Lead, were part of the live conversation which Priyanka shared on her Instagram. More than 45,000 fans participated in the session.

"There is so much information circulating about Covid-19. And right now we're all searching for clarity. My friends at @WHO and @glblctzn graciously brought the doctors working on the front lines here to give us answers straight from the experts. Please take some time to watch my IG Live with Dr. Tedros (General-Director at W.H.O.) and Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove (Technical Lead for Covid-19) from @WHO, who answered some questions that so many of you sent in," Chopra captioned the post.
Bollywood's 'Desi' girl also asked her fans to spread awareness about the disease and tag their friends and family in the post who are looking for answers and action steps.
PC even posted few questions submitted by the general populace and answers to the same on her Instagram story. The first question came from her husband, Nick Jonas, who also joined in on the conversation.

One of the questions was about the latest 21 day lockdown in India. Priyanka and Nick have been in self-isolation for weeks now.
