I am not the second heroine of 'Krrish 3': Kangana Ranaut

October 19, 2013
Kangana_RanautMumbai, Oct 19: Actress Kangana Ranaut does not prefer being called the second female lead in her upcoming superhero film 'Krrish 3', which also stars Priyanka Chopra.

"If you are talking about a second heroine role, then it sounds very disappointing. It makes me feel that I have done nothing good to deserve something good in life. She is not a regular girl... She is a mutant and is an important part of the film. This is definitely not a two heroine film. We both are not fighting for the boy," Kangana said.

Kangana had initially rejected 'Krrish 3' primarily because of her bitter experience with 'Kites'. Also, she was concerned about the length of her role as opposed to co-actress Priyanka Chopra in the film.

"Keeping the experience of 'Kites' in mind, I was very concerned. The film I was narrated did not come out to be the same on-screen. But that was a different director's film and Rakesh Roshan is the director of 'Krrish 3'... He said he was not part of 'Kites' and he was hardly involved in it," Kangana said.

"I got convinced and he is a man of his words and he did exactly what he had promised me," she said.

Even though Priyanka plays the role of a wife to Hrithik in the film, Kangana is also seen romancing him.

"This is another love story and its tricky. I am glad that these people came up with such songs. There is no other way of promoting films in India than having a song, so you show a mutant and a superhero romance each other. Hrithik has three roles in the film and you don't know who is romancing who," she added.

I am the heroine of Krrish 3, not Kangana: Priyanka

priyanka_chopraMumbai, Oct 18: Actress Priyanka Chopra insists she is the heroine of 'Krrish 3', which also stars Kangana Ranaut. Kangana had initially turned down the film as she was concerned about sharing screen space with Priyanka. Earlier, Jacqueline Fernandez, Chitrangada Singh, had similar concerns and they rejected the film.

"A lot of girls rejected that role. It is really stupid to do it as it is an amazing role. I am the heroine of the film, I am playing wife of Hrithik and that is how it is," Priyanka said in an interview here. Priyanka feels Kangana's role is also quite interesting and if she had the opportunity, she would have even taken it up.

"Her character is credible, it is an amazing role and if I had the opportunity I would have done it. I had told Rakesh sir I am ready to play that part, as everybody was saying no to doing it," Priyanka said.

"I am happy Kangana has done the role, she has done an amazing job. She is looking fabulous and it is a new thing for Hindi cinema," she said.

This is not the first time that Priyanka is sharing screen space with another actress."In my first two films I came right after interval and before climax. I have learnt that the film does not run because of the length of your role but because it is a good film. I have done many two-heroine films. For me it doesn't matter, I have always thought of how good I can be in this role, what impact I am leaving in my role," Priyanka said.

"In this film I am the heroine of the film. Her character is also very interesting. In one film there can be various characters... if the film works then it works for me, Hrithik, Vivek and Kangana. If it doesn't work and I am the most important person in the film, then what is the point as eventually the film did not work," she said.

There were reports that all was not well between the two actresses and they were not going to share same platform to promote the film.

However, Priyanka rubbished it saying that when people see them together promoting the film, then they would get to know of such reports not being true.

Priyanka will be playing a dual role in the film, but she insists it's not a double role.

"I am not doing a double role but a dual role. I am playing Krrish's wife Priya Mehra as in the last film we left as being lovers. I go from being a good wife to being evil in the film. It is the duality of good and evil that I play which is very interesting," she said.

"When he (Rakesh Roshan) narrated me the script he was super excited about this thing. I had not decided or thought about this," she said.

Priyanka does not have any specific look in the film like her co-actress Kangana.

"There is Vivek's character that is bad and his army of mutants, they are called 'maanvar' which are a mix of human and animal.

There is a chameleon girl played by Kangana, then there is scorpion, cheetah girl, rhino, frog man in it. They are in the army of 'Kaal' (played by Vivek Oberoi) and they are evil. I am normal, I am not part of the mutant space," she explains.

Sci-fi films are primarily about superhero and supervillian but in 'Krrish 3', both Priyanka and Kangana have interesting roles.

"Usually in superhero films girls don't have anything to do, they are just damsels in distress. But in this film, I have duality in the film and even Kangana's character is interesting," Priyanka added.

'Krrish 3' releases on November 1.

Mumbai, Jan 4: After the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur constituted a panel to decide whether legendary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem 'Hum Dekhenge' is offensive to Hindu sentiments, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar had a cryptic take on the burning controversy.

"Best time for the rich & small businesses to make money as most of the population are engaged with a revolutionary poet named Faiz," Sircar said in a tweet.

The poem, penned down by the iconic poet in 1979, came into limelight again recently during the protests against CAA and NRC in IIT Kanpur.

Earlier on Thursday, senior lyricist Javed Akhtar rejected the claims about the poem being 'anti-Hindu'.

IIT Kanpur on Thursday had set up a committee to look into the issue.

The move came after a complaint that the students who took out a peaceful march in the campus on December 17 against the Citizenship Amendment Act and in solidarity with Jamia Millia Islamia students, sung it as a mark of protest, which hurt the sentiments of other communities.

The CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians who faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

Los Angeles, Jul 1: Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan and costume designer Neeta Lulla are among the 819 artistes and executives who have received invitations to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

Bhatt's last movie, the Zoya Akhtar-directed Gully Boy was India's official entry for best international feature category at the 2019 Oscars. However, the film had failed to make it to the final five.

Other prominent Indian names to receive invitations are casting director Nandini Shrikent, documentary filmmakers Nishtha Jain, Shirley Abraham, Amit Madheshiya, visual effects supervisors Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal.

In a statement, the Academy said the new invitees include 36 per cent of people of colour and 45 per cent women. Artistes from 68 countries have been invited as members.

Those who accept the invitation will have voting rights at the 93rd Academy Awards, scheduled to be held on April 25, 2021.

"The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travellers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now," Academy President David Rubin said.

The Academy has been actively working to introduce more diversity in its voting to avoid a controversy like 2016 when the Oscars were dubbed "white" for failing to recognise talents of colour.

The 2020 batch boasts of major Hollywood names like Cynthia Erivo, John David Washington, Constance Wu, Zazie Beetz, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, Awkwafina, Yalitza Aparicio, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de Armas, Adele Haenel, Thomasin McKenzie, Olivia Wilde and others.

The stars of multiple Oscar-winning South Korean movie Parasite -- Jang Hye-Jin, Jo Yeo-Jeong, Park So-Dam and Lee Jung-Eun -- are among the invitees.

Directors Lulu Wang, Ari Aster, Terence Davies, Matthew Vaughn, Robert Eggers, Matt Reeves, Alma Har’el are on the list as well.

The Academy has announced a new five-year plan that includes implementing inclusion standards for nominees.

"We take great pride in the strides we have made in exceeding our initial inclusion goals set back in 2016, but acknowledge the road ahead is a long one.  We are committed to staying the course.

"We look forward to continuing to foster an Academy that reflects the world around us in our membership, our programs, our new Museum, and in our awards," Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said.

In 2019, the organisation had invited 842 new members which included Indian names such as filmmakers Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and veteran actor Anupam Kher.

Mumbai, Jan 9: Actor Juhi Chawla on Wednesday said instead of constantly criticising the government, one should reflect on own conduct and talk about uniting rather than dividing.

The actor attended an event which aimed to counter "Free Kashmir (narrative), anti-India slogans, false propaganda and clear the misconception."

Juhi said as artistes, it's unfair to be questioned about incidents "just for a reaction" when they should be given time to truly understand the situation.

"We are going to work, thinking how to execute our task, then some incident happens somewhere and suddenly the media asks, 'what do you think about this?' We haven't understood the matter, people haven't understood the matter but you need a reaction.

"Let people understand, whether it's NRC or CAA, and what's is it about, why is this being talked about," Juhi told reporters.

The actor said it is sad that people talk about division more than unity.

"Everyone is quick to talk about dividing. Why don't we talk about uniting? Why does everyone say 'what is the government doing, why is it doing this?' but I say if you point one finger there then three fingers are at you.
