Couple dupes Akshaye Khanna of Rs50 lakh

Akshaye_KhannaMumbai, Oct 20: The Malabar Hill police lodged a complaint against a couple who allegedly duped actor Akshaye Khanna to the tune of Rs50 lakh by promising to invest and double his money in the commodities market. No arrests have been made in the case so far. The police are also on the lookout for an unknown person who was the duo’s accomplice.

The police said they have registered a complaint by Khanna’s advocate Rajendra Dhuru on instructions from the actor.

According to the police, the actor met the accused couple, Satyabratu Chakraborty and Sona Chakraborty, the president and director of a company called Intact Imijet Pvt. Ltd, a few years ago.

The couple told Khanna that they dealt with the commodities market. The duo lured Khanna into investing his money into the commodities market by promising to double his investment. The couple resides at Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri (West). Most of the transactions and meetings were done at an office, allegedly run by the couple in a building near Hanging Garden in Malabar Hill.

Since August 2010, the police said Khanna gave the duo Rs 50lakh but he received neither the interest nor the money. The actor decided to approach the police after several attempts to get in touch with the couple and get his money back proved unsuccessful.

A case of cheating has been registered against the duo, the police said. Considering the amount involved, the case had been transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and further investigation is on. “The Malabar Hill police has only registered a case soon after which the inquiry was handed over to the EOW. Whether the company is registered and still functional is to be found out,” said a senior police officer.

Washington D.C., Jun 7: South Korean pop band BTS and their record label Big Hit Entertainment have donated USD one million to support Black Lives Matter.

According to Variety, the donation was transferred earlier this week, with Black Lives Matter confirming receipt to the label on Friday.

"Black people all over the world are in pain at this moment from the trauma of centuries of oppression. We are moved by the generosity of BTS and allies all over the world who stand in solidarity in the fight for Black lives," the outlet quoted Kailee Scales, managing director for Black Lives Matter as saying.

The widely lauded band, earlier on Wednesday, took to Twitter to show their solidarity with the people fighting against the social injustice.

"We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together," the tweet read.

The pledge of the donation from the Korean boy band and its label comes during a time when people and celebrities from the industry have come forward to demonstrate their support for the black community.

Several big names from the music and acting industry also observed 'Blackout Tuesday' earlier the week as a message of solidarity in response o the death of George Floyd, an African-American man in the United States.

New Delhi, May 26: As the country celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr in the testing times of coronavirus this year, megastar Shah Rukh Khan's greetings reflected of blessings from the almighty to help the countrymen sail through the tough times.

The 54-year-old actor took to Twitter to extend Eid greetings to his fans.

"May the blessings of Allah see us through these times," he wrote in the tweet.

"In the end, it's Faith that keeps us going... Eid Mubarak to all. May He shower all with love, peace and prosperity always," Khan's tweet further read.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramzan, which is a month of fasting and prayer for the Muslim community.

This year, Eid is being celebrated amid a nationwide lockdown imposed as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Mumbai, Jun 4: Casting director Krish Kapur, who had worked on films like Mahesh Bhatt's Jalebi and Kriti Kharbanda-starrer Veere Ki Wedding, passed away at the age of 28 due to brain hemorrhage, his family said.

There was speculation that Kapur died in a road accident but his maternal uncle, Sunil Bhalla, dismissed the reports, saying that the casting director fainted at his home in suburban Mira Road here and suffered brain hemorrhage.

According to Bhalla, Kapur breathed his last on May 31.

"He had no medical history. He was healthy and doing absolutely fine. On May 31, he just collapsed and started to bleed. He died of brain hemorrhage," Bhalla said on Wednesday.

Kapur is survived by his mother, wife and seven-year-old child.
