NCP's Jayant Patil, BJP oppose moves to pardon Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay_DuttMumba , Oct 26: Senior Nationalist Congress Party leader and Maharashtra Rural Development minister Jayant Patil opposed a pardon to actor Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case, saying that such a move would spark similar demands from other convicts.

"Sanjay Dutt was convicted and sentenced to jail after the completion of a judicial process. If his sentencing is pardoned, then the judicial process will not have any meaning. Similar demands by other convicts may also increase," Patil told reporters here.

However, he said that the Maharashtra Home department still has to take a final decision to reduce Sanjay Dutt's sentence.

"It was the Home department which demanded that the actor should be given stringent punishment," Patil said.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra BJP too announced that it would oppose any move by the state government to pardon Sanjay Dutt.

"If the Maharashtra government considers any pardon to Sanjay Dutt, it would be unfair on its part to show any mercy to him. What Sanjay Dutt is today is immaterial, and his conviction by the Supreme Court was on the basis of his involvement in the Mumbai blasts case. It would send a wrong message to terrorists," Opposition Leader in the Maharashtra State Legislative Council Vinod Tawde, told reporters at a press conference today in Nagpur.

Tawde said that Sanjay Dutt was convicted by the Supreme Court and does not deserve any sympathy for waiving off his imprisonment.

"The Opposition led by the BJP will meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan and Home Minister R R Patil tomorrow in Mumbai to demand that the government should not consider the pardon application. The President of India has sought the opinion of the Maharashtra government on Sanjay Dutt's plea for pardon," Tawade said.

New Delhi, Aug 4: Almost two months after the demise of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, actor Preity Zinta on Tuesday watched his last film 'Dil Bechara' for the second time and said it was an 'emotional roller coaster'.

The 'Kal Ho Na Ho' actor shared a picture of one of the scenes from the film on Instagram and thanked film director Mukesh Chhabra for doing justice to the 'Kai Po Che!' actor's last film.

"Saw #Dilbechara again Thank you @castingchhabra for doing full justice to Sushant's last movie," she wrote in the caption.
"It was surreal, a tearjerker and an emotional roller coaster all the way," she added.

She also praised Sushant's co-actor Sanjana Sanghi for doing a "fab job" in the film which happens to be her debut flick.

"@sanjanasanghi96 U and the rest of the cast did a fab job. Congratulations to all of you. #Bittersweet #MissU," the 45-year-old actor further wrote.

Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai's Bandra residence on June 14.

Mumbai, Mar 16: In the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all filmmaking and producing bodies have unanimously decided to stop shooting for all kinds of entertainment formats temporarily.

A notification unanimously issued by the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association, Federation of Western India Cine Employees and other similar bodies have ordered that shooting for films, TV shows, digital and other kinds of entertainment format will have to remain suspended between March 19 to 31.

The notification reads: "In view of the epidemic spread of COVID-19 throughout the world including India, an urgent joint meeting of IMPPA- WIPFA-IFTPC-IFTDA-FWICE held on 15-3-2020 unanimously decided to stop shooting of films, TV serials, web series and all other entertainment, including digital formats from 19-3-2020 till 31-3-2020 as a result of health advisory, closure of all cinema halls, all sporting, educational institutes and entertainment events by the Government of India which has declared a medical emergency over the coronavirus. We appreciate and support all the steps taken by the Government of India to control the virus."

"All units shooting till the stoppage comes into force have been strictly advised to follow all precautionary and preventive measures without fail."

"Decision about re-starting shootings shall be taken on 30-3-2020 after considering the prevailing situation."

It was reported only yesterday that superstar Salman Khan is continuing shooting in the city for his upcoming flick 'Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai' even though the makers insist they are strictly adhering to the safety norms of World Health Organisation (WHO).

Meanwhile, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted this morning requesting his fans not to gather outside the gate of his bungalow Jalsa for their weekly meet and suggested them to stay safe.

New Delhi, Aug 5: Playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam on Wednesday confirmed testing positive for COVID-19 with 'mild' symptoms.

The 74-year-old musician shared the information through a video message posted on his official Facebook page.

In the video, the singer detailed about having a little "discomfort" for two days, stating he had chest congestion along with cold and on-off fever, which led him to get tested for the virus.

However, he also mentioned that he could have stayed at home in self-quarantine, as advised, but did not want to put his family in danger, and hence got admitted by his own choice, to recover quickly.

"I am in good hand, I am in good health. Nobody has to worry about this. The fever has subsided, and in two days I'll be discharged and I'll be home. Thanks for the concern," he said in the video message.
