Varanasi, Jul 8: A senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh has has stoked controversy by saying that even Lord Ram would not have been able to stop the rising incidents of rape and crimes against women.

"Main daawe ke sath kah sakta hun ki Bhagwan Ram bhi aa jayenge to yeh ghatna (rape) par niyantran kar pana sambhav nahi hai. Yeh samaj ka swabhavik pradushan hai, (I can say with surety that such incidents (rapes) cannot be checked even if Lord Ram comes (to Earth). Such incidents are natural pollution of the society)," Surendra Singh, BJP MLA from Bairia in Ballia district, told reporters when asked to comment on the recent incident of molestation in Unnao, the video of which went viral on social media.

"Such incidents could be controlled only by inculcating ' sanskar' (good character) among men, women and children, and not through ' Samvidhan' (Constitution)," he said.

Singh added: "Dreaded criminals are being eliminated in police encounters, but ' jism lootne wale' (rapists) could not be treated in a similar manner... such people are sent behind bars."

Known for making contentious comments, Singh had earlier called West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee "Surpanakha", the sister of demon king Ravana, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a reincarnation of Lord Ram.

Recently, he had supported another BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is in Sitapur jail over the Unnao rape case.

Singh had said that no one can rape a mother of three children.

“I am speaking from psychological point of view; no one can rape a mother of three children. It is not possible, this is a conspiracy against him (Kuldeep Singh Sengar),” he told ANI, adding, “Yes, maybe her father was thrashed by some people, but I refuse to believe rape charge.”

The CBI on Saturday filed a charge sheet against the five accused in the death case of the father of a minor girl, who was allegedly raped last year in Unnao.

People lost trust in Judiciary because of such horrible criminals.

He betrayed the whole nation. Unless he is booked, the judiciary will not restore the lost faith.

The loss may be momentary in nature, It is the promise of the Almighty, He will ensure the justice is served to everyone.

Shimla, Apr 19: A man, who had recovered from the novel coronavirus, was again found suffering from the infection in Himachal Pradesh, officials said.

The man, a Tablighi Jamaat member, tested positive for the infection on Saturday within a week of his two reports coming out negative, they said.

Residents of different places in Mandi district, the man along with two other Jamaatis had been staying in a mosque of Nakroh village in Una'a Amb tehsil and all tested positive on April 2.

They were admitted to Tanda's Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) in Kangra district on April 3.

As per the available information, they had tested negative for the first time on April 10 and they were declared as cured as per protocol after they tested negative for the second time on April 12.

Subsequently they had been discharged from the RPGMC and were kept in institutional quarantine.

However, with the man again testing positive, the total number of active cases in the hill state has increased to 23 out of the total 40 positive cases.

Four persons have been shifted to a private hospital outside the state. Eleven have recovered while two others have died.

A total of 16 confirmed cases were found in Una and health department statistics now shows 14 active cases and two cured.

Officials said 11 patients — three each from Chamba, Kangra, and Solan districts and two from Una district — have recovered.
