Mangaluru, Mar 2: In continuing efforts to enhance and empower the skills of future Managers and to compete in the global employment market, Placement Cell of the SDM College of Business Management Post-Graduate Centre for Management Studies and Research, Mangaluru organized an expert Lecture on the topic “Desired Learning Focus and Employability Skills” on 25th February, 2019 in the Institute Conference Hall. The Guest Speaker was Dr Jnaneshwar Pai Maroor, Assistant Professor and MBA PG Coordinator, Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte. The function was presided over by Dr. Seema S Shenoy, Director, MBA Program, SDM College PG Centre.

Dr Maroor spoke on the various aspects of employability requirements like Soft Skills and Behavioral aspects that students should inculcate while they are working in industry. He also stressed that the students should develop professionalism, discipline and dedication which is very essential while working in Knowledge based industries.He also shared expectations of the Corporates from the employees. He demonstrated importance three things which enhances employability i.e. Subject Knowledge, Logical thinking and Communication Skills.

More than 200 MBA students of the Institute benefitted from this lecture.

On this occasion, Dr Maroor was felicitated by the Institute Director Dr Seema S Shenoy. Placement Cell Incharge Prof. Ramya Shetty coordinated this program.

St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, which is celebrating its centenary year, celebrated 99th college day and merit programme of the academic year 2019-20 in P.U College Auditorium on February 11.

Ms. Philomina Lobo, Retired Director, Secondary Education department of public instructions, Government of India was the chief guest of the programme. The programme began by evoking the blessings of God. Sr Dr M Jeswina A.C, Principal, St Agnes College, Sr Dr M Maria Roopa A.C, the Joint Secretary, Mr. Ronald Pereira PTA Vice President, Mr Charles Pais the Controller of Examinations ,Dr Subha Rao were  present.

Ms. Seemanthini, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications presented the annual college report digitally, highlighting the achievements of the institution, staff and students for the academic year.

Addressing the students, Ms Philomina Lobo advised, “You have knowledge and intelligence but you need to pray for wisdom. Use your talents in the right way.” She also mentioned that the companies today are looking forward for skilful youngsters and asked the students to “be skilful” in order to achieve success in life.

Students received Principal's role of honour, various scholarships and merit certificates for their excellence in academics. The cabinet members of the current academic year were also awarded on the occasion. The Principal gave a token of gratitude to Ms Philomena Lobo, who is also an alumna of the college. Mrs Meera, HOD, Department of History proposed the vote of thanks.

The Post Graduate Department of English, St. Agnes College (Autonomous) organized COSMOPOETICA – a Two-Day International Poets Conference, transcending the boundaries of language and bringing together scholars from English, Hindi and Kannada languages. The key-note speaker was Dr Hima Urmila Shetty and the Panel of Experts included Maggie Harris, a Commonwealth short stories award winning poet of Broadstairs, Kent; Dr Kathryn Hummel, a visiting professor at IIT Hyderabad; Prof Raj Rao, acclaimed poet and novelist, former HOD of English, Savithribai Phule University; Lata Chouhan from Bangalore; Vijay Tiwari from Ahmedabad; Dr. Nagaveni Manchi, an acclaimed Poet and Professor, Govt College, Carstreet and Ms. Chandrakala Nandavara, former Principal of Ganapati PU College.

Dr Sr Jeswina A.C., the Principal; Dr Sr Maria Roopa A.C. the Superior and Dr Sr Vinora A.C., graced the occasion.

Dr Geralyn Pinto, the Staff Convenor; Dr Malini Hebbar, the HOD and Ananya Sneha the student Convenor organised the Conference.

The highlight of the Conference was the Poetry Workshop, Slam Poetry Competition in three languages and paper presentations on various aspects of poetry.

Overall the conference drew together poets and academicians to discuss poetry as a genre and practice with ignited minds.
