Facts still murky in Salman Khan case, says lawyer

August 7, 2015

Mumbai, Aug 7: In an attempt to demolish the prosecution case, the lawyer representing Salman Khan in the 13-year-old hit-and-run case on Thursday said several questions about the case still remain unanswered.

salmancase“Why were the patients taken to the Bhabha Hospital, when the Holy Family hospital was just adjacent to the road?” defence council Amit Desai asked Justice A R Joshi of the Bombay High Court who is presiding over the hearing of Khan’s appeal against his conviction.

“How come there is no facility to draw blood when it has an ICU? When the house was searched, was any panchanama done? Why was Ashok Singh interrogated and his statement was not recorded? Why was Kamaal Khan not examined by the court?"

“There are several questions that remain unanswered...the (trial) court should have asked some questions,” he said.

He took exception to police statement that driver Ashok Singh has “surfaced now”.

“Why are you saying that he has surfaced now? PW 27 (the then Senior Police Inspector of Bandra police station) had stated that Ashok Singh was called to the police station and he interrogated him...”

“The word interrogated is very important here....and he also says that he has not recorded the statement....what is the purpose of interrogation without recording the statement?” he pointed out.

PW 27 and PW 26 (the then Inspector Rajendra Kadam) searched Salman’s home at the Galaxy apartments and could not find him at the house or at the gym. “Was there any panchnama of house search made?” he asked.

While it was claimed that Salman fled the scene and was not at his house, “The accused-appellant” visited the Bandra police station voluntarily.

“Do you think this would be the conduct of a person who has run away?” he asked the judge, pointing out that both the police officers wanted to take credit for searching Salman’s house.

On the issue of Ashok Singh, he said: “The defence says that there were four persons in the car...the prosecution says there were three...however, there was no dispute as far as the fact that Kamaal Khan was present...then why he was not examined?” “....they have just relied on the statement of police constable Ravindra Patil, who is no more,” he added.

Los Angeles, Jan 27: Lil Nas X, Lady Gaga, Beyonce and... Michelle Obama?

Yep.

The former first lady can now add Grammy winner to her resume, after snagging the award on music's biggest night for Best Spoken Word Album, for the audiobook of her memoir Becoming.

Her win on Sunday gives the Obama household its third Grammy: former president Barack Obama has already snagged two Grammys in the same category for his books.

She faced an eccentric group of rivals that included Michael Diamond and Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys for Beastie Boys Book and John Waters, the director-performer known for his transgressive cult films, for Mr. Know-It-All.

Released in late 2018, Becoming saw the former first lady slam U.S. president Donald Trump for questioning her husband's citizenship and promoting the notion that he was born abroad.

"The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed," Obama wrote.

America's first black first lady also dug into her personal life in her book, expounding on issues including a miscarriage, using in-vitro fertilization to conceive her daughters and marriage counseling.

New Delhi, Jul 10: Actor Bhumi Pednekar, who is staying indoors like many other Bollywood celebrities, on Friday said that she has learned to prioritise what is important to her amid the COVID-19-induced lockdown.

"One thing that I have learnt about myself is that I love isolation. I love being by myself. I saw a lot of people complaining that they are bored at home or that they cannot go out. I am an extrovert, I am a very social person but this quarantine has led me to realise that I do prefer my isolation over meeting people because I haven't really been in touch with people," she said.

"I have kind of been catching over my reading, not seen much television but started watching shows. I have spent a lot of time with my mom and honesty there were days when I did nothing," she added.

The 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' actor further said that it was important loving oneself and enjoying one's own company.

"I have kind of prioritised what I feel is important in life. I have re-educated myself. But the biggest learning has been that I love being alone. And maybe I have kind of enjoyed this state because as actors you are constantly surrounded by people whether you are promoting or shooting a film," she said.

"Your immediate entourage is also like a team of quite a few people. You are constantly over the phone, you are constantly over social media," she added.

Pednekar was last seen in Karan Johar's horror film 'Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship,'.

She will next be seen in another horror thriller, 'Durgavati.'
