Fadnavis ministry expansion on Dec 5, Shiv Sena may step in

Mumbai, Dec 3: The 33-day-old Devendra Fadnavis-led ministry in Maharashtra will be expanded on December 5, amid indications of a "patch up" with former ally Shiv Sena.Fadnavis

Around 20 ministers are likely to take oath at the ceremony, and almost half of them are expected to be those from Sena.

The ceremony will be held at Vidhan Bhawan premises at 10 AM.

Fadnavis had met BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi yesterday and is believed to have got the nod for BJP probables in the expansion exercise.

Among those in reckoning from BJP include senior legislators Girish Bapat (Pune) and Girish Mahajan (Jalgaon) and also Babanrao Lonikar and Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar, both from Marathwada.

The names of Sanjay Kute and Chainsukh Sancheti (both from Buldhana), Seema Hire and Devyani Farande (both Nashik), Jaykumar Rawal (Dhule), Govardhan Sharma (Akola), Madan Yerawar (Yeotmal) and Ram Shinde are doing rounds.

From Mumbai, there is speculation over inclusion of Mangal Prabhat Lodha, the Malabar Hill MLA, and Raj Purohit, who represents Colaba, and Ashish Shelar, the Bandra MLA, who is also city BJP chief.

Presently, there are eight cabinet rank and two ministers of state in the ministry.

Srinagar, Mar 25: A 65-year-old man hailing from Hyderpora area of the city died on Thursday, becoming the first fatality in Jammu and Kashmir due to coronavirus.
"As we share the sad news of our first #Covid19 fatality, my heart goes out to the family of the deceased. We stand with you and share your grief," Mayor of Srinagar Junaid Azim Mattu tweeted.
Government spokesperson Rohit Kansal also confirmed the death via Twitter.
"First death due to Coronavirus- 65 years old Male from Hyderpora Srinagar. Four of his contacts also tested positive yesterday," Kansal said.
Four people had tested positive for coronavirus in J-K on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases to 11.
Authorities in Kashmir have expressed apprehensions that the cases could be more than reported in the Valley as a significant number of people appeared to have concealed their travel history.
As per a government bulletin on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir, as many as 5,124 travellers and people who came in contact with suspected and positive cases have been put under surveillance.

Among them 3,061 are in home quarantine (including facilities operated by the government), 80 in hospital quarantine and 1,477 in home surveillance.
Restrictions on movement imposed in Kashmir to prevent the spread of coronavirus were tightened on Wednesday.

New Delhi, Mar 28: The total number of coronavirus positive cases in the country has risen to 918 that include foreign nationals, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday.

The ministry said: "The total positive cases of coronavirus are 918. The active COVID-19 cases are 819. Cured and discharged are 79. While 19 deaths have occurred so far. One person with COVID-19 migrated. As many as 15,24,266 passengers were screened at airports."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that "social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.

Srinagar, Jun 19: Suspended Jammu and Kashmir DSP Davinder Singh, arrested while ferrying two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists in a vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway earlier this year, was granted bail by a Delhi court on Friday, his lawyer said.

Singh and another accused in the case - Irfan Shafi Mir - were granted the relief by the court in a case filed by special cell of Delhi Police, noting that the probe agency failed to file charge sheet within 90 days from his arrest, as prescribed under law, their lawyer M S Khan said.

The bail was granted on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of like amount.
