FB 'friend' allegedly harasses woman, pressures her to marry him; arrested

New Delhi, Mar 12: Two men were arrested for allegedly stalking and molesting a woman in Delhi's RK Puram area, police said on Monday. The accused have been identified as Aftab Khan, a resident of Shaheen Bagh, and Soneneder, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, they said.

On Saturday, the woman approached police and filed a complaint where she alleged that Khan had sent her friend request on Facebook and they became friends, a senior police officer said. Later, they got into a relationship. She claimed that Khan, along with Soneneder, started pressuring her to marry him, police said.

She also claimed that they molested her and threatened her of dire consequences if she would not marry Khan, the officer said.

When the victim started avoiding Khan, they started stalking her wherever she went, Devender Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest), said.

The accused also threatened her that he will upload her personal pictures on social media websites, the DCP said.

A case has been registered and police are taking appropriate actions, Arya added.

Mumbai, Jan 12: At least eight persons were killed and several others injured when a massive blast followed by a fire ripped a chemical factory at Boisar in Palghar district, nearly 100 km north of Mumbai, on Saturday, officials said.

Top Palghar district administration, police and fire brigade officials have rushed to the spot for the rescue operation, while Fire Brigade teams from Boisar MIDC industrial area and Tarapur Atomic Power Station are engaged in dousing the flames.

As per local witnesses, the intensity of the explosion was so severe that it was audible in a 35-km range and one building in the factory collapsed.

Besides, many homes in the immediate vicinity were shaken and people ran outside thinking it was an earthquake, as power lines also failed.

The exact cause of the explosion-cum-blaze which occurred around 7 p.m. is not immediately available.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 10: The man who fled from the Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 committed suicide on Wednesday morning after being brought back. He used his bed sheet to hang himself from the ceiling.

Hailing from Anad near Nedumangadu, the man, who was undergoing treatment in the isolation room set up at KHRWS pay ward, escaped from the hospital and boarded two KSRTC buses to reach his home.

The Health Department had said the latest tests had returned negative and he was to be discharged on Wednesday. However, City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay had claimed that one more test result of the person was awaited.

The man was blocked by locals upon his arrival at Anad. He was later taken back to the hospital and the police had registered a case against him under the Kerala Public Health Act and Epidemic Diseases Ordinance.

Kozhikode, Jun 26: A man, who had returned from Bahrain on Thursday and has been under quarantine at his house in Villyapallai near here, has been stabbed on his arm by an unidentified person.

Police sources said the assailant, with a masked face, had ransacked the man's house by break-opening the door at midnight lat night and stabbed Lijeesh on his arm and fled from the scene.

The nearby residents took Lijeesh to a nearby hospital and was put back on quarantine.
