Lucknow, Jun 22: A complaint has been filed with the police in Varanasi against actor Sunny Deol and Mohalla Assi director Chandra Prakash Dwivedi for reportedly hurting religious sentiments.
The complainant is an organisation, Sarvajan Jagruti Sanstha, whose members have alleged that not only does the film violate moral ethics, but it also shows Varanasi in poor light.
The organisation filed the complaint at Bhelupur police station on Sunday.
"The film hurts religious sentiments and we cannot allow such a film to be released," a complainant said.
The film also stars Ravi Kishen and Sakshi Tanwar.
Based on a novel by noted Hindi writer Kashi Nath Singh, Mohalla Assi focuses on the life of a middle class family that earns its bread and butter by organising religious rituals. Played by Sunny Deol, the film’s lead character is a guy who likes to use cuss words in his daily conversations. Sakshi Tanwar plays his innocent wife who doesn’t understand why foreigners are so much interested in Varanasi.
