Five arrested for abduction of businessman

Kochi, Nov 2: Eloor police have arrested a gang of criminals led by Arun aka Radhakrishnan (36) , who is wanted in several cases, including murder, registered in various police stations of Ernakulam district.

The arrested gang members have been identified as Sulaiman alias Vadival Sulaiman, Punnoos alias Sarathkumar and Soorya alias Mottakkanan.

The arrests were made on a complaint by businessman Abdul Salam (35), who was allegedly abducted and beaten up by the gang on Wednesday.

As per the complaint, Salam was abducted by the gang in a white colour Swift car after threatening him with sword and other weapons. He was taken to a bar at Pathalam and was beaten up but Salam managed to escape and reach Eloor police station.

The gang threatened Salam after he refused to help them identify a man who had helped police to arrest Anas, an accused in the murder of Perumbavoor-native Unni, who was killed in Karnataka.

The arrests were made by a team of officers led by Palarivattam sub-inspector Sanal, Eloor sub-inspector Nelson George, assistant sub-inspectors James, Joseph Kaduthoos, senior civil police officers Santhosh, Arun and Santhosh and civil police officer Ajesh.

Pilibhit, Apr 3: Two men were mauled to death by a tiger in the vicinity of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve here, an official said on Friday.

The incident happened in Richhaula Chowki of Gajraula area in the district on Thursday night when Ninder Singh (50) and his servant Dorilal (28) were sleeping on their agricultural field, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Naveen Khandelwal told reporters.

The tiger also dragged them for over 500 metres, he said.

The forest department came to know about the incident when they were informed about it by Ninder's brother after which teams of police, district administration and forest department reached there.

The tiger was tranquillised on Friday by the forest department team and will be sent to Lucknow Zoo.

Thane, Jul 19: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing his wife after picking up a fight as he did not like the food she cooked, Thane police said.

Sachin Godane, a resident of Gaikwad Pada in Ambernath, locked his two children and an aunt in one room of the house on Friday afternoon and brutally beat up his wife Chandrakala (28) with a log and then strangled her, said Assistant Inspector JB Bhoyer of Shivajinagar police station.

Godane has been remanded in police custody for four days, he added.

Bengaluru, Apr 12: Two police officials have been booked for murder in connection with the alleged custodial death of a theft accused in Bengaluru rural district, police said on Saturday.

A case of murder has been registered against inspector Raghu and sub-inspector Rakesh C for the alleged custodial death of Munikulla on Friday afternoon, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru rural district, Ravi D Channannavar told reporters.

"Yes. A case has been registered and transferred to CID," he said.

Munikulla, a resident of Nadavatti village, was picked up by the police on April 7, his wife Dhanalakshmi told the media on Saturday.

"Policemen took my husband with them. They beat him up and killed him," she said.

Alleging that Munikulla was a victim of police high- handedness, Hoskote MLA Sharath Bachegowda said he had lodged a complaint with the state DGP Praveen Sood demanding a CID inquiry into the case.

An FIR was registered against Munikulla on Friday evening based on a complaint by the cashier of the liquor store, who had claimed that the CCTV footage showed victim's involvement.
